Hyd to host Videsh Sampark on May 13th Hyderabad, May 11 (INN): The Ministry of External Affairs, in partnership with Telangana Government, will conduct the first conference the 'Videsh Sampark' series in Hyderabad on May 13.
The Ministry of External Affairs is launching an outreach programme aimed at the State Governments titled 'Videsh Sampark'. Through this conference, Ministry will engage in an in-depth dialogue to enhance awareness among stakeholders and officials of the State Government about programmes, schemes and initiatives launched by the Ministry with regard to consular and passport services; engagement with overseas Indians; and welfare and protection of overseas Indians. The discussions will also provide an opportunity to brain-storm how the State Government and Ministry can strengthen ongoing cooperation to address issues, problems pertaining to these areas; streamline procedures and share best practices. Follow-up action on issues emerging out of interaction of External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj with NRI Ministers from various State Governments held on May 8th this year in Delhi will also be discussed in the conference.
Minister of State for External Affairs Gen. (Dr) V K Singh (Retd) is leading a delegation of senior officials from Ministry of External Affairs for this conference. NRI Affairs Minister K. Tarakarama Rao and Home Minister Nayini Narasimha Reddy will lead the State government delegation. Chief Secretary of Telangana, Principal Secretaries of all concerned departments, Senior Police officials, District Collectors and SPs from 12 districts (from which large number of migrant workers go for overseas employment), industry representatives, recruiting agencies, media and other stakeholders from Telangana will also participate.
The conference will feature interactive sessions on specific thematic priorities such as: Strengthening Engagement with overseas Indian Community; Welfare and Protection of Indians aboard; Promoting Safe and Legal Migration and bringing Passport Services to the doorstep.
Many deliverables are expected to be announced in partnership with the State government of Telangana. The Conference is expected to set a template for similar dialogues with other States.
