T-TDP delegation meets Venkaiah Naidu Hyderabad, Feb 8 (INN): A delegation of leaders of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) from the state of Telangana met Union Minister of Housing & Urban Poverty Alleviation M. Venkaiah Naidu on Wednesday, regarding the sanctioning of affordable houses to the poor in the state.
Their representation stated that the Union Government has already sanctioned houses to Telangana, but on ground, the work has not commenced yet.
In response to this, Venkaiah Naidu said that the prerogative of land procurement lies with the State Government once the houses are sanctioned by the centre. He has already sanctioned 80,000 houses to the State of Telangana. The Minister said that he will take up the matter with the State Government and find out the reasons for the delay, if any.
Naidu was also appraised that nearly 23000 houses, already constructed previously under JNNURM & WAMBAY schemes, have not been allotted or given possession to any beneficiaries as yet. The Minister said that he will depute one officer from his Ministry to Telangana to assess the situation and understand why the houses are lying vacant, evaluate their condition and verify the list of beneficiaries.
Assuaging the concerns of the delegation, the Minister added that HUDCO has sanctioned loans to the tune of more than Rs. 15,000 crore to the State Government of Telangana so far for the period 2014-2017.
