Man sets records with Ganesh idols Pabsetti Shekhar, a resident of Secunderabad has the collection of 16,865 Ganesh Idols,18,422 photographs, 1098 posters,170 books on Lord Ganesh,184 key chains and 168 Audio/Video Cassettes and many more. He also holds a Guinness record for his collection.
Shekhar, working as Special Assistant in State Bank of India at St.Mary's Road Br, Secunderabad a resident of West Marredpally, created world record by holding world's largest collection of Ganesh Idols and Photographs as on date and looks forward to open a museum to highlight the importance of Lord Ganesh since the ancient times.
Shekar said, since his childhood he used to sketch and make Ganesh idols out of clay, specially during Ganesh festival. "In July 1973, I visited Saibaba temple at Shirdi along with my parents where I was inspired by a little Plaster of Paris Ganesh Idol and then started my collection. I visited different places to collect variety of things related to lord Ganesh and broke the Guinness World record in 2014. Later on earned many awards and rewards for my collection" he added.
Shekar's collections are from 37 countries like India, USA, Japan, China, Afghanisthan, Sri Lanka, Bali islands, Korea, Java, Ireland and many more. This mighty collection have all the 32 forms of Ganesh statues from Bala Ganapathi to Sankatahara Ganapati and also Shub Dristi Ganesh the 33rd form of Ganesh and 12 Raasi Ganapati forms.
Ganesha idols made of Gold, Silver, Bronze, Brass, Aluminium, precious stones, Terracotta, Crystal, Glass, Ivory, Coral, Granite, Soap Stone and various types of woods were included in the collection.
The showcase, Pen stand, Wall hanging, Lamp, Switch Mirror, Watch Bell, Door Key Chains are displayed at all the visible places in his home and the highlight is in drawing room,which is adorned with Ganesh Idols in big and small sizes.
Temple of Fine Arts, Malaysia had performed Vishwa Vinayaka Ganesh Festival during 2003 at Shilparamam, Hyderabad and awarded, 'Best Collection Award' to Shekar. During 2004 Ganesh Chaturthi, organized an Exhibition at Juluri Veereshalingam hall, Penderghast Road, Secunderabad for two days and a few stalls were arranged. The rents generated from stalls were donated to the orphanages.
Shekar is also scripting a book called Vishwa Vinayaka covering various Ganesh temples across the world. He also has a plan of constructing Panchamukha Ganesh temple in Hyderabad.
