Tammileru in spate, evacuations start Eluru, Aug 30 (INN): The district administration on Monday evacuated people from low-lying areas as Tammileru, a small river which bisects Krishna district and West Godavari district, receiving heavy inflow of waters. According to sources, the heavy rains in Khammam and adjoining areas have led to massive inflow of flood waters in Tammileru.
Irrigation officials released 10,000 cusecs of water as waters touching the rivulets danger mark. Officials are reviewing the flood situation on an hourly basis and discharging waters accordingly.
The flooding of Tammileru poses an imminent threat to 15 adjoining villages. Officials have evacuated 100 families from low lying areas to safer places in Shivapuram in Chintalapudi mandal.
The traffic between Lingapalem and Musunuru was disrupted as Tammileru water flowing over the Valasapalli bridge in Krishna district. Meanwhile, officials at Kovvada Kalva Reservoir scheme on Monday lifted three flood gates as the reservoir received massive flood waters due to heavy rains in the district.
