HC Bench demand justifiable: Mopidevi to lawyers Vijayawada, Oct 23 (INN): Minister for Technical Education and Law Mopidevi Venkata Ramana on Saturday justified the agitation of Joint Action Committee of senior advocates for setting up a High Court Bench between Guntur and Vijayawada cities. Talking to media persons after visiting lawyers who are on an indefinite hunger protests since the past three days, Mr Ramana said the government would consider their demand favourably and take a decision in this regard soon.
He appealed to Joint Action Committee of senior advocates to withdraw their agitation and attend Courts as the government was seriously considering their demand. As decision does not fall within the purview of the state government and is under the jurisdiction of the High Court and Supreme Court, the state government would hold discussion with the Centre soon, he stated.
After holding discussions with all concerned departments, the government would take a final decision on the establishment of the High Court Bench, the Minister said. The lawyers from Guntur and Vijayawada are staging agitations by boycotting Courts since the past 18 days. They are demanding establishment of High Court Bench between Guntur and Vijayawada which was envisaged in the Gentlemen's Agreement of 1956. A High Court Bench between the above cities would help reduce the huge number of cases pending with the High Court, they opine.
