Walk your way to health: Vijayawada PC Vijayawada, April 3 (INN): Vijayawada City Police Commissioner Amit Garg on Sunday called upon people to keep walking on a regular basis to maintain fitness and for reducing heart attacks, diabetes and other ailments.
Falling off 'Megawalk' organized by Vijayawada Loyola Walkers Association on the wee hours of Sunday to mark the Ugadi New Year day celebrations, the Police Commissioner hailed the move of organizers for conducting even which was aimed to improve overall health condition of people.
The Commissioner said that studies have shown that retired men who walked two or more miles a day had a lower mortality rate than men who do not do so.
Mr Garg appealed to organizers to conduct the events regularly to create awareness among the people over the benefits of walking so that they can remain fit.
The positive side-effect of such an event would be increased cooperation and coordination among people. Nearly 500 people, cutting age barrier, participated in the 'Megawalk' held from 3 AM till 6 AM.
