Unhealthy food habits is root cause of GERD: expert Ongole, November 30. An awarness camp on angina and Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) conducted by gastroenterologist D. Venkateswarlu in Ongole on Sunday.
Speaking on the occassion he said that 60 to 70 percent of people living in cities and towns suffered from GERD due to intake of food at odd time.
If anybody experience a burning pain in the middle of the chest feeling like a heart pain (angina), you may be suffering from Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), such patients could get rid of the digestive disorder with suitable lifestyle modifications, he added.
Pointing out that unhealthy food habits is the root cause of GERD, he said one should take meals at least two to three hours before going to bed. One should keep away from spicy food, chocolates and carbonated drinks. People need to avoid overeating, liquor and tobacco.
The gastroenterologist advised walking, meditation and yoga, among other exercises to lose weight.
In some cases, burning pain in the middle of the chest could be relieved through lifestyle changes, some might require medication or surgery.
The doctors also enlightened the gathering on gastric ulcer, gastric cancer, duodenal ulcer and Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
The Kurnool Road Shop Owners Association felicitated the doctors Dr.Venkateswarulu and his wife Dr D. Manasa, Medical officer at the Police Training College for holding so far 100 medical camps.
