Congress attempts to console Jagan NEW DELHI: After blowing hot and cold on the controversial Odarpu Yatra of its L'Enfant terrible Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Congress today sought to play down the widening gap between the Kadapa MP and the grand old party. Indicating that the party would not lift finger against him, a top Congress leader called him a misguided youth whom will neither hurt nor harm. It seems Jagans emotional outburst that everyone was ganging against him from opposition leader Chandrababu Naidu to his own party members, seems to have had its effect on the Congress top-brass.
In fact, Jagan Mohan is learnt to have conveyed the same sentiment to senior Congress leaders, finance minister Pranab Mukherjee and Congress chief s political secretary Ahmed Patel, before resuming his consolation Yatra planned in memory of his father YS Rajasekhara Reddy. Hes said to have complained that a section within the state Congress has been responsible for spreading rumours and for souring of his relationship with the party high command.
Today, the top Congress source said that the party has decided to be patient with Jagan Mohan as it is aware that his father YSRs sudden death has emotionally shaken him. 'His behaviour has not been normal after his fathers accidental death. He is under emotional stress. He has been misguided in undertaking this Yatra which should have been taken out from the party platform,' the source said.
The Congress, it seems, tried to reason with him and suggested the Yatra be undertaken from the party side. 'But he insisted that it was a private, personal issue that he has to undertake the journey as his fathers son, not as a politician,' the source added. It has been clear for some time that the Congress core leadership would not take any step against Jagan - YSR son in mourning - lest it boomerangs on the party. 'We would not hurt or harm him,' conforms that line.
