Expedite work on Srisailam Highway: Ponnala Hyderabad, Sept 8 (INN): Minister for Major Irrigation Ponnala Lakshmaiah on Wednesday took officials of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority to task for the delay in execution of the expansion of Srisailam National Highway from Midulapally in Ranga Reddy district. Mr Lakshmaiah who is also the In-Charge Minister for Ranga Reddy district told the officials that their laxity in solving the minor glitches was delaying the work on the project. He directed the officials to try and work out solutions various court cases.
The Irrigation Minister was speaking after chairing a review meeting in his chamber in the Secretariat with Ranga Reddy district Collector Dana Kishore, HMDA Chief Engineer Madhava Raja and other officials.
The officials informed Mr Lakshmaiah that the delay in going ahead with the expansion of the Highway was due to delay in acquiring 7.24 acres of land needed for the project. They said that the HMDA needed to acquire 52 acres of land which abutted the 7 km long road. The officials said that out of 7.24 acres, 4.17 acres was patta land and the rest was assigned land. Ten cases were pending before the Court over the acquisition of the land.
Mr Lakshmaiah directed the officials to take all necessary steps to settle the cases out of court since it has been two years since they were filed. He told officials to deposit the compensation amount in the court and also try and get the stay orders vacated so as to expedite the pace of works on the road.
The Irrigation Minister reminded the officials that Rs 87 crore had already been spent on the project and directed them to complete the works as soon as possible by solving the minor problems. Bridges and central lighting system work on 6.5 km of the High road has already been completed, he said.
