One more dog bite death, toll mounts to 6 Kakinada, May 18 (INN): Rabies claimed the life of one more person in Kakinada on Wednesday, raising the number of deaths due to dog bite to six in the past twelve days.
K Subba Rao (45), a resident of Tanuku in West Godavari disease died at the Government General Hospital in Kakinada on Wednesday afternoon after contracting rabies through a dog bite four months ago. Earlier, Lakshmibai (50), Anusha (10), Prabhakar (39) and Raju (60) and one more person fell victim to dog bites.
According to reports, Subba Rao was bitten by a rabid dog four months earlier while he was on his way to visit a relative. However, Subba Rao had not taken proper treatment after the dog bite.
When symptoms of rabies appeared, he was admitted at Government General Hospital in Kakinada. However, his condition deteriorated and he died on Wednesday afternoon.
Earlier, Subba Rao had bitten his wife Nagamani in the hospital. However, the doctors immediately administered rabies vaccine to her and her condition is stated to be out of danger.
Meanwhile, the district people are raising their voice against the menace of stray dogs and increasing incidences of people being bitten by the canines. Pressure is also mounting on the authorities to catch and sterilize the stray dogs. According to reports, the district has close to 67,000 stray dogs.
