VHR accuses YSR of betraying power agitation Hyderabad, Aug 28 (INN): In yet another controversial statement, Rajya Sabha MP V Hanumantha Rao has accused former Chief Minister late Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy of betraying the power agitation of farmers 14 years ago.
Speaking to media persons here on Thursday, VHR alleged that instead of intensifying the agitation against the increase in power tariff by the then TDP Government in 2000, YS Rajasekhara Reddy withdrew the hunger strike launched by over 90 Congress MLAs within two days after the incident of police firing.
He said when he questioned YSR for his decision, the latter lodged a complaint with AICC President Sonia Gandhi accusing him of aligning with the TDP. VHR alleged that YSR entered into a secret understanding with the then Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu and betrayed the power agitation.
The Rajya Sabha member also condemned the lathicharge on farmers by the TRS Government during the protest against improper supply of power. He accused Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao of ignoring the implementation of promises that he made with the people during elections.
