TS Govt orders delimitation of GHMC wards Hyderabad, Oct 22 (INN): The Telangana Government on Wednesday has directed GHMC Commissioner Somesh Kumar to begin process of delimitation of election wards in Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation as per the census of 2011.
According to GO Ms No 12 issued today by Municipal Administration Department's Principal Secretary S.K.Joshi, the High Court in its orders dated August 25, 2014, has directed the authorities to carry out the delimitation of wards as per the Census 2011 at the earliest before holding the next GHMC polls.
The orders were issued following petition filed by one GR Karunakar and three others. Later, the State Election Commission too wrote a letter asking the government to complete the delimitation process as directed by the High Court.
Subsequently, the GHMC Commissioner has informed the government that according to Census, 2011, the population of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation area is 67,31,790 and for implementing the orders of the High Court, delimitation of wards in GHMC area has to be taken up after fixation of strength of elected members. The same position was reiterated by the Commissioner & Director of Municipal Administration.
Therefore, the government has directed the GHMC Commissioner to take necessary action and report compliance at the earliest.
