Ganta Chakrapani appointed TSPSC head HYDERABAD: Causing embarrassment to the TRS government, Governor ESL Narasimhan has reportedly rejected the names of five persons to officiate as members of the newly-established Telangana State Public Service Commission (TSPSC).
The Governor, however, gave his nod for the appointment of Prof Ganta Chakrapani as Chairman of TSPSC and three others as members. They are: former MLA Bhanothu Chandravathi, employees' JAC leader C Vittal and Matinuddin Quadri. The government had sent eight names.
Sources said the names of five -- two advocates Sri Ranga Rao and Chandrasekhar Reddy, two professors Dinesh and Srinivas and an educationist Rajeswar Reddy -- have been rejected. The exact reason for rejecting the names is not known.
The name of Chakrapani, a professor at BR Ambedkar Open University, has been doing the rounds ever since the government had issued orders establishing TSPSC in August. Chandravathi, former MLA of Wyra constituency in Khammam district, won on a CPI ticket in 2009 elections and joined the TRS ahead of 2014 elections.
Vittal is employees' JAC leader who took active part in the separate Telangana movement. Another name which got cleared was that of Quadri. The government had provision to nominate at least eight persons as members of the commission.
Chakrapani along with Chandravathi and Vittal met Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and thanked him for selecting them for the posts.
Earlier, during the appointment of Information Commissioners in the undivided State of Andhra Pradesh during Kiran Kumar Reddy's regime, the Governor had rejected four names proposed by then government.
