KCR keen to mend ties with BJP Hyderabad: With the BJP gaining ground in successive elections across the country, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi seems to be trying hard to maintain a harmonious relationship with the Centre.
All along the TRS has expressed its reservations against the BJP government at the Centre and has alleged several times that the Centre is not clearing State projects. Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao has also alleged that the Centre is not expediting the allocation of IAS officers.
Still, the outcomes of recent elections have prompted the TRS to reconsider its strategy of opposing the Union government.
There is now a perceptible change in its approach towards the Centre. According to sources, the TRS feels that with BJP's efforts of entering newer domains yielding positive results, its government has been gaining in strength.
The BJP has complete majority in Lok Sabha, but currently lacks sufficient strength in the Rajya Sabha. The TRS leaders feel that it would not be good for the people of the State to have sour relations with the Centre.
The leaders point out that there is a larger threat in the form of Chandrababu Naidu when it comes to solving conflicts between AP and TS. When Union Minister M Venkaiah Naidu said that the AP Reorganisation Act would be amended, there was no immediate opposition from the TRS party.
In fact, the TRS ensured that it did not come out with an official reaction. However, the Congress had opposed the move and even JAC leader M Kodandaram expressed doubts over the role of the Union Minister. Party's secretary general and MP K Keshav Rao had in fact welcomed the decision of the Centre on the topic.
Another MP B Vinod Kumar too said that there was dire need to amend the AP Reorganisation Act. 'The BJP is registering growth in every State. There is no reason why it cannot have strength in the Rajya Sabha in the coming years. A government with majority can do anything. The party needs to protect the interests of the people of the State, keeping aside politics,' said a TRS senior leader.
The BJP has been winning one State after other in recent times. They are sharing power in Maharashtra with Shiv Sena and have come to power on their own in Haryana. The exit poll results suggest that they are slated to form the government in Jharkhand too.
The party is seriously eyeing States like Kerala, West Bengal and Tamil Nadu, where it has currently has little or no presence. Political analysts feel that enough damage has been done with the statements of Prof Kodandaram and it is learnt that the Union Minister is unhappy over these developments.
To overcome it, Bhongir MP B Narsaiah Goud had to address a press conference on Saturday to clarify that the Centre had been extending all cooperation to Telangana.
He went on record to state that the Centre and Prime Minister Narendra Modi were giving importance to Chief Minister Chandrashekar Rao. gain on Sunday, KCR and Dattatreya met and discussed in private ways in which TRS can maintain cordial relations with the Centre.
