Hyd needs 12 more Metro Rail corridors HYDERABAD: With chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao being keen on extending the metro rail to more areas in future, the Hyderabad metropolitan area requires 360 km of metro corridors including the 72-km track being laid now in Phase-I.
In the first phase, three metro rail corridors are being laid _ Miyapur to LB Nagar (29 km), Jubilee Bus Stand to Falaknuma (15 km) and Nagole to Shilparamam (28).
LEA Associates South Asia Pvt. Ltd, which had conducted a comprehensive transportation study (CTS) a few years ago, recommended 15 metro corridors running to a total length of 360 km including the three corridors being laid at present.
As there is a need to improve the transport facilities in Greater Hyderabad to match the increasing population, the chief minister said there was need to extend the metro rail service to Uppal, Tirumalagiri, Nagole, Hayatnagar, Patancheru and other places and wanted officials to take up a study in this regard.
The population of Hyderabad has crossed the one-crore mark and another 10 lakh population is being added every year. Hence the need for extended network of metro rail and other transport services.
