TRS, TDP spar over voting rights Hyderabad, May 22 (INN): The Telangana Rashtra Samithi on Friday contended that the nominated Anglo-Indian member of Telangana Legislative Assembly enjoys the voting rights to elect MLCs.
Speaking to media persons here, TRS candidate K Yadava Reddy accused the TDP of raising hue and cry over a non-issue. He said besides the Anglo-Indian MLA, Vemulawada legislator Ch Ramesh, who was barred by the Supreme Court from voting in united Andhra Pradesh, too would be eligible to vote in Telangana State.
Yadava Reddy said that the TDP could approach the court if it was not convinced with the TRS stand. He claimed that the TRS has sufficient strength to win all five out of six seats in the MLC elections.
Meanwhile, TDP leaders Errabelli Dayakar Rao, L Ramana and A Reventh Reddy accused the Returning Officer of violating the norms by including Anglo-Indian MLA in the list of voters. They said representations would be made with the Election Commission of India and the TDP would also approach the court if required. They said that the TRS has fielded the fifth candidate only to encourage defections in opposition parties.
