Karnataka MLA among five killed in train accident Hyderabad, Aug 24 (INN): Five persons, including Karnataka MLA Venkatesh Naik, were killed when a granite-laded truck rammed into Bangalore-Nanded Express at Madakasira of Anantapur district in Andhra Pradesh in the wee hours of Monday.
The Train No.16594 Bangalore City ' Nanded Express, while passing Level Crossing Gate between Rangepalli and Penukonda Stations on Dharmavaram Section of Bangalore Division of South Western Railway, was was hit with a lorry breaking the closed LC Gate at around 2.23 AM.
Five persons, including Devadurga MLA Venkatesh Naik, Indocel Manager B Raju, Railway official Ahmed, Pulla Rao of Raichur and lorry cleaner Nagaraju of Tadipatri were killed on the spot. At least 25 persons were also injured in the accidents.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has expressed deep condolences over the accident. He spoke to Minister Paritala Sunitha and District Collector and SP directing them to extend all required help to the injured passengers. Meanwhile, Paritala Sunitha, along with local authorities, visited the accident site and supervised the relief operations. As many as 22 buses were arranged for the passengers and food, water and other facilities were also provided to them.
The accident has disrupted the traffic on Bangalore-Guntakal railway line and several trains were either diverted or cancelled.
