GHMC cautions against dilapidated buildings
Hyderabad, June 29 (INN): The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has decided to take up a special drive to demolish dilapidated and unsafe buildings in the city in this monsoon to safeguard the lives of public.
In a review meeting held on Wednesday, GHMC Commissioner Dr. B. Janardhan Reddy has cautioned the public against living in dilapidated buildings and asked them to vacate them on immediate basis. As part of monsoon emergency action plan, GHMC is identifying dilapidated buildings every year and initiating action against the same as per the provisions of HMC Act.
There are around 1819 dilapidated buildings identified in GHMC area, of which 1248 buildings have been demolished/rectified/redeveloped. 176 buildings are under court cases (which are mostly owner & tenant dispute).
During this year, 152 buildings have been referred to Engineering Department for opinion on structural stability and 32 buildings have been demolished so far.
The GHMC Commissioner on Wednesday inspected some buildings in Banjara Hills and Jubilee Hills area and issued instructions to check the safety of retaining walls constructed in hilly areas in the entire GHMC limits. Further, he directed all the Town Planning Officials to inspect such type of retaining walls and huge buildings to check the stability of the building whether they could withstand this monsoon season. If so, the Commissioner asked them to issue notices to submit their stability certificate to initiate further necessary action.
