Uttam Kumar Reddy visits rain affected areas

Hyderabad, Sept 24 (INN): TPCC president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy has appealed to the entire rank and file of Congress party to help the people affected due to recent heavy rains in the Telangana State, especially Hyderabad. He has strongly condemned the State Government for its failure to handle the rain situation.

Speaking to media persons after visiting rain affected areas of Alwal, Kukatpally and other localities on Saturday, Uttam Kumar Reddy said that the TRS Government's lethargic and negligent attitude has pushed the entire city into chaos. He said that the portfolio of Municipal Administration was handled by Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao himself for the first two years and then he "gifted" it to his son K. Tarakarama Rao after GHMC elections. Neither of them held a comprehensive review on civic conditions in the city and today's situation was the outcome of continued negligence, he said.

Uttam Kumar Reddy said that the State Government has failed to take measures to prevent inundation of low lying areas. It also failed to provide required relief to those trapped in water logged areas. "The situation clearly shows that no emergency plans were drawn after the Met Department issued warnings of heavy rains in the city. Instead of action, the entire machinery responded in reactionary manner. At least now both KCR and KTR should come out of their slumber and take immediate action to bring back normalcy," he demanded.

He said that the GHMC has been starved of funds under TRS regime and consequently, the routine desiltation of nalas and other works were not taken up before the onset of monsoon. This negligence proved disastrous for the people of Hyderabad, he said.

The TPCC chief said that the State Government should prepare a detailed estimate of losses caused due to heavy rains. He said special funds should be sanctioned to bring the city back into shape. He said that the present condition of Hyderabad clearly reflects the inability and inexperience of KCR and KTR to run the administration.

Earlier, Uttam Kumar Reddy, along with former minister P. Sabitha Indira Reddy, ex-MLA Sudhir Reddy, Youth Congress president Anil Kumar Yadav and other Congress leaders, interacted with the affected people and also distributed food among them.
