24 Maoists killed near AP-Odisha border Vijayawada/Hyderabad, Oct 24 (INN): An entire dalam of 24 Maoists was killed in an encounter near Jantri in Koraput district on AP-Odisha border in the wee hours of Monday.
Those killed in the encounter include two prominent commanders G. Ravi and Chalapati. Two senior commandos of Grey Hounds were injured in the exchange of fire and they were shifted to a hospital in Visakhapatnam in a helicopter.
Senior Moists Kiran, Sudhakar and Ramakrishna's son Munna and seven women were among the dead. Another senior leader Ganesh reportedly escaped the police ambush. Police have recovered four AK-47 rifles, other ammunition and cash of Rs. 2.16 lakh.
Meanwhile, following a petition moved by Chiluka Chandrasekhar, the Hyderabad High Court has directed the police to preserve until further orders and posted the next hearing to Wednesday.
Speaking to media persons in Hyderabad, revolutionary poet Varavara Rao alleged that police killed Maoists after attacking one of their meetings near the Andhra-Odisha Border on Monday. He disputed the police claim that Maoists were killed in an exchange of fire.
Veerasam leader demanded that a murder case be booked against the police involved in the operation.
Varavara Rao demanded an inquiry into the incident by a High court sitting judge.
