Contract lecturers told to end stir by Jan 12
Hyderabad, Jan 10 (INN): Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Education Kadiyam Srihari on Tuesday termed the ongoing strike of contract lecturers as unjust and urged them to resume duties by Thursday failing which stern action will be taken against them.
Speaking to media persons here, Srihari said that the government was contemplating to regularize the services of contract lecturers according to the GO 16. He said that the state government has recently hike the salaries of junior lecturers from Rs 18,000 to 27,000. If the striking lecturers do not join the duties by Thursday the government would not hesitate to sack them making them ineligible for regularization of their services.
The Deputy CM alleged that the contract lecturers were carrying on their protests at the behest of political parties. He said that it was unfair on the part of the contract staff to continue their protest despite the government assuring them of regularizing their services. He said that the government had to delay the process of regularizing the services due to legal issues as Osmania University Students JAC had approached the Court thereby stalling the process.
Srihari said that the students were facing difficulty as their exams are scheduled to be held in February. The contract lecturers are striking for the past 34 days and if they do not resume their duties by January 12, the government would end there contract immediately, Srihari warned.
