Opposition walksout over TDP MLAs suspension
Hyderabad, March 11 (INN): Main opposition party Congress, BJP and CPI (M) staged a walkout from the Telangana State Legislative Assembly in protest against the suspension of two TDP MLAs from the House on Saturday.
Leader of Opposition K. Jana Reddy alleged that the State Government was snatching the rights of members to protest in the House. He said staging protest by standing near the seats was permitted in the legislative norms. He said that the TDP members, Revanth Reddy and Venkata Veeraiah, did not rush to the podium or resorted to any activity which prompted the government to suspend them for the rest of session. He said such protests were held in the House several times in the past. He requested the government to revoke the suspension.
Immediately after Jana Reddy concluded his speech, Speaker S. Madhusudan Chary asked TRS MLA Vemula Prashant Reddy to speak on the Motion of Thanks To Governor's Address. Unhappy over rejection of his request, Jana Reddy said that the Congress MLAs were staging a walkout in protest.
BJP floor leader G. Kishan Reddy too condemned the suspension of TDP MLAs and demanded that it be revoked. He said that the government was making unnecessary hue and cry over the protest by two members who did not even leave their seats.
Intervening on the issue, Legislative Affairs Minister T. Harish Rao said that the TDP members were suspending for not honouring the decision taken by the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) of maintaining decorum in the House during Governor's address. He said that the government might consider revoking their suspension if they tender an apology. He said members in neighbouring Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh Assemblies were also suspended for long period for misbehavior in the House.
However, Kishan Reddy said that the Maharashtra Governor was injured in the attack by Congress legislators which led to their suspension for a long period. But TDP MLAs' protest in TS Assembly could not be compared with Maharashtra. He said several time MPs have passed comments when President of India addressed the Parliament session. Expressing regret over government not revoking the suspension, the BJP members too staged a walkout.
CPI (M) MLA Sunnam Rajaiah also staged a walkout from the House.
