GHMC to develop new parks in City Hyderabad, May 16 (INN): GHMC Commissioner Dr. B. Janardhan Reddy has directed the officials to identify open places and locations for the development of parks in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad.
The Commissioner asked the Zonal and Deputy Commissioners to work in coordination with Urban Forestry and Horticulture officials to identify the open places, locations or new spots which could be developed as parks. The directions were issued during the review meeting with the Additional Commissioner (UB), ZCs / DCs and senior officials of Biodiversity, Engineering wings for the overall development of the parks in the GHMC limits.
Janardhan Reddy said that as per the Action Plan for Telangana Harithaharam programme for 2017, the Government has fixed the target of planting 100 lakhs saplings in GHMC jurisdiction which includes open space plantation, avenue plantation, green curtain, green ways, institutional plantation and distribution of Home Stead Plants.
The Commissioner said that the GHMC is planning to develop and maintain major parks, city level parks, theme parks, colony parks to the citizens by providing path ways, play equipment for children of all age groups, also to maintain ecological balance and to reduce pollution levels. These developed parks will be handed over to the respective RWAs / CWAs for further maintenance. The GHMC would pay 75% of maintenance cost and the balance 25% will be borne by the RWAs / CWAs.
So far, 769 parks have been developed including 73 colony parks during the year 2016-17. Of them, 602 colony parks have been handed over to CWAs / RWAs for maintenance. As per the direction of Municipal Administration Minister K. Tarakarama Rao, the idea of adoption of a park each by a senior functionary of the department has been accepted by 80 top officials.
Additional Commissioner (UB) C.N. Raghu Prasad and other senior officials were also present in the meeting.
