SCR GM holds meeting with Cement Industry Hyderabad, Nov 27 (INN): South Central Railway (SCR) General Manager Ravindra Gupta assured the Cement Industry that the Zone is open to look into issues raised by them, so as to encourage and enhance cement traffic by rail.
He was addressing representatives of various Cement companies located on the SCR network, who attended a meeting called on Friday at Rail Nilayam in Secunderabad to discuss on plans and strategy for increasing transport of cement during the remaining period of the current financial year 2015-16 on SCR.
The meeting, primarily called by SCR to interact with the cement sector with a view to plan for increased rail share of cement transport for the current financial year. The General Manager stated that the misgivings of the cement sector will be cleared and plans will be drawn to meet the specific requirements of the cement industry to enable them utilise the rail sector for transport of cement, both for short lead and long lead distances. He also added that along with cement, the cement sector should also utilise railways for transport of Clinker, bulk cement, fly ash and raw material like gypsum & coal required for cement industry. The General Manager added that the Railway Board will be apprised of the suggestions given by the representatives of the participant industries.
Representatives from the cement industry spoke on their expectations and needs from the Railways in terms of Operating and Commercial support. The issues raised by them concerned availability of Rakes, Freight discount schemes, settlement of claims etc. They expressed confidence that, the share of cement loading on Railways will see an increase in the ensuing months of the current fiscal.The cement companies which were represented at the meeting include Ultra Tech, Vasavadatta, Kesoram, Vikat Sagar, Manikgarh, Ramco, My Home, India Cements, JayPee, Pennar, Cement Corporation of India, Zuari cements etc.,
Earlier, J N Jha, Chief Operations Manager, SCR made a power point presentation to detail the cement traffic flow from various clusters on the Zone, to show shifts in cement traffic trends. Umesh Singh, Additional General Manager; G. Laxminarayan, Chief Commercial Manager; Ashesh Agarwal, Divisional Railway Manager, Secunderabad; B G Mallya, Divisional Railway Manager, Guntakal Division, SCR were also present.
