Petitioners blamed for rise in pending cases before SHRC
Guntur, Jan 2 (INN): Acting Chairman of the State Human Rights Commission Justice Kakumanu Peda Peri Reddy on Sunday said that the petitioners were partly to be blamed for the rise in number of pending cases since they were not cooperating with the SHRC in disposing off the cases. Talking to media persons after participating in a programme, Justice Reddy said the petitioners, who have approached the Commission seeking justice, were not providing proper evidence to back their accusations. Justice Reddy added that the inability of the petitioners to provide proper proof has resulted in thousands of cases remaining pending before the SHRC. He added that many files are gathering dust.
The acting Chairman of the SHRC revealed that about 19,258 cases were pending in the State Human Rights Commission due to lack adequate evidence and substantial proofs. Stating that the Commission has been making efforts to dispose off the cases expeditiously, the in-charge Chairman said the Commission has set a target to clear 4,000 cases by March 31, 2011. He asked the petitioners and advocates to help the commission to clear the cases in a speedily.
