Two held for SVU professor's muder Tirupati, Aug 21 (INN): The Tirupati police have unravelled the mystery behind the murder of SVU professor M Shyamala and arrested a maid and her husband for the offence.
Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, the Tirupati police said 54-year-old Shyamala, an associate professor of Sri Venkateswara University, was murdered for gain by her own maid and her husband. Her body was found in mysterious circumstances in her residential quarters on the university campus last month.
The police said the accused have admitted their crime during interrogation. The death of M Shyamala of the department of education in Quarter No 49 in Red Buildings came to light when her research scholar K Sudhakar Reddy went to her residence and found it bolted from outside but not locked. He immediately alerted the vice-chancellor and police.
Shyamala hailed from East Godavari district and was living with her husband M Janardhan Rao in Visakhapatnam while working at Andhra University. She joined the SV University as an associate professor in 2007. Rao was an employee of SBI in Visakhapatnam and took voluntary retirement some years ago and is running an old age home. The couple do not have children and her husband used to visit Shyamala in Tirupati occasionally.
