Dr. Vangala said: "Of course, Hiranyakasipa is a Rakshasa and therefore, so is his son Prahlada. But Prahlada is not considered as Rakshasa because of his God loving qualities without terroristic concepts." Did it ever occurred to you Rakshasas were patriots fought against the Aryan invaders. You read the rigveda hyms, and Aryans in thier own words described how they demonized Rakshasas. Prahalada story is to brianwash people like you to believe Rakshasas were bad people. This is 21st Century, Man has new tools to rediscover the facts and history. First Aryans were white race and they superimposed 'varna', color based system which is totally different from the Indian Caste system. Aryans brought Sanskrit, an Indo-European language, and it is not native to India. Ninty percent of Indians today are the descendents of rakshasas with little Aryan or white blood mixing. Time has come to treat Rakshasas as our ancestors, and they were patriots, and they don't deserve their death celebrated as a hindu festival. As a Scentist your job is to find the truth and tell the truth even if it is against your upbringing. Dear Mr. PS Rao garu, You missed the whole point of my article. I am a born brahmin and Hindu. But I respect all other castes, races, religions - I firmly believe all these divisions are man made for their own conveniences calling division of labor (This is similar to what I mentioned in my article that labor is divided among many parts of the cell and are carried out very effectively without feeling superior to one another). This division of labor worked very well for symbiosis among the humans but with the recent civilization everyone is moving away from these divisions and making their living in different ways. Brahmins left preisthood, Kamma's no longer deliver mail, Raju's are no longer rulers, all businesses are no longer owned by Vaisya's etc. . We all left India, our mother land, and came to a land where Christians predominate. I will ask you a question? If you don't believe in a God other than Siva or Kali, why are you living in a Christian predominant country? To me, God doesn't have a shape, home or even doesn't remotely look like human. I like to see God in everything and anything. This is the major reason I quoted Hiranyakasipa story. Of course, Hiranyakasipa is a Rakshasa and therefore, so is his son Prahlada. But Prahlada is not considered as Rakshasa because of his God loving qualities without terroristic concepts. The difference is one terrorized the world and the other did not. Therefore, Rakshasa, literally means "people who terrorize others." In this context, we can say Osama Bin Laden and a few other terrorist muslims, as Rakshasa's, but not all Muslims. Many Muslim friends I have are kind hearted and respect other religions. Bottomline, we are all humans "homo sapiens" and have to get along and work with each other to make this world an Idealistic place.

Dr. Vangala garu, If you limit your discussion to scienece, I have no problem. But you injected Hirnyakashyapa story, an Aryan interpreatation. But again we can't ignore our cultural roots. Without Rakshasa blood we Indians would not have been existed. Rigveda is the first book and it reveals a great deal of our early history. You are right we don't have a long recorded history. When Aryans arrived in India, there was no script and they passed thier history orally. Before Aryan arrival, Indus people worshipped Siva and Kali and it is practiced even today in every corner of India. We Indians are the second largest race in the world, and we should be proud of who we are. PS: Most of the Brahmins are also miscegenated race and they are not pure Aryans either. Dravida word was invented much later to represent Rakshasas.

Thanks to all of you posting very interesting comments and thoughts. Unfortunately, we don't have a human calendar beyond 2,010 years, AD. Perhaps we know something up to 3000 BC. This is a minor fraction of earth's age which is believed to have originated approximately four billion years ago. Even some of the historic incidents in the last 5,000 years are hypothetical. For example, age of Egyptian pyramids has been debated anywhere from 3000 BC to 10,000 BC. I agree we have a lot of theories but no facts. Why do we need to fight about who is great and who is not...Rakshasas, Brahmins, Aryans, Dravidans, Caucasians, Mongoloids...who cares ? One thing interesting is, whatever the race, religion, caste we all belong to, we all have 30,000 genes in our cells. We all have face, legs, hands, brains, liver, kidneys etc. It is only minor changes in these genes have given us the appearances we have. Cancer doesn't discriminate and occur only in brahmins or in rakshasas or Aryans etc. The simple reason is who ever is predisposed to cancer is having bad genes. In addition, death also doesn't discrimate on the basis of religion, race or case etc. All of us will die whichever religion, race, caste we may belong to. Hopefully, more genetic studies in human populations may shed interesting evolutionary changes currently happening in humans. The genes are so intelligent that the dominant and healthy genes survive and recessive and unhealthy genes slowly disappear, In other words, humans eventually may become resistant to most of the diseases and survive longer. I can't predict how long it will take for such natural selection of healthy genes to be evolved but the "intelligence of genes" is what I interpreted as godliness, existing in all of us. Something supernatural is driving these genes to be constantly evolving, which is beyond our comprehension. I finally leave you with this Quote "God is One, Names are Many".

Good observation Mr. Bullibasu. Rigveda is te first Aryan book which reveals the truth how Aryans defeated rakshasas and wrote history to demonize the native Indians. Rakshasas were not evil people. They were our ancestors who fought for this land. The movie industry under Brahmins influence shamelesly depicted Rakshasas as evil people with dark currly hair, bad teeth and bones hanging in their necks. Time has come to defend these heroes and honoring these people is honoring ourselves. A new six hour PBS/BBC documentary 'Story of India', I recommend everyone to see the first hour which covered about who are these Aryans and where they come from.

బుల్లిబాసు, వంశీమొహన్, & సుబ్రమన్యం A friend just forwarded this partial list of hyms from Rigveda. It will make you think 'Who were Rakshasas'? Were they patriots of their time and fought against the Aryan invaders? Are we the descendents carrying their blood in our vains? Who wrote the history? Aryans drank Soma and prayed their Gods Indra, vayu, Agni, varun etc to destroy Rakshasas. Rigveda was the first Aryna book and it has has no idea of Krishana, Rama or Gita or other Sanskrit books. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The Hymns of the Rgveda - Translated by Ralph T. H. Griffith (2nd edition, Kotagiri (Nilgiri) 1896) A partial list of Hymns where ‘Raksasas’ are referenced below and find complete Rgveda in: http://www.sacred-texts.com/hin/rigveda/index.htm 01-035 HYMN XXXV. Savitar. 10) May he, gold-handed Asura, kind Leader, come hither to us with his help and favour. Driving off Raksasas and Yatudhanas, the God is present, praised in hymns at evening. 01-079 HYMN LXXIX. Agni. 6) O Agni, shining of thyself by night and when the morning breaks, Burn, thou whose teeth are sharp, against the Raksasas. 12) Keen and swift Agni, thousand-eyed, chaseth the Raksasas afar: He singeth, herald meet for lauds. 03-030 HYMN XXX. Indra. 17) Root up the race of Raksasas, O Indra rend it in front and crush it in the middle. How long hast thou bebaved as one who wavers? Cast thy hot dart at him who hates devotion: 04-004 HYMN IV. Agni. 15) O Agni, with this fuel will we serve thee; accept the laud we sing to thee with favour Destroy the cursing Raksasas: preserve us, O rich in friends, from guile and scorn and slander. 06-016 HYMN XVI. Agni. 48) The Gods enkindle Agni, best slayer of Vrtra, first in rank, The Mighty, One who brings us wealth and crushes down the Raksasas. 07-015 HYMN XV. Agni. 10) Bright, Purifier, meet for praise, Immortal with refulgent glow, Agni drives Raksasas away. 07-104 HYMN CIV. Indra-Soma. 18) Spread out, ye Maruts, search among the people: seize ye and grind the Raksasas to pieces, Who fly abroad, transformed to birds, at night-time, or sully and pollute our holy worship. 08-023 HYMN XXIII. Agni. 14) O Hero Agni, Lord of men, on hearing this new laud of mine, Burn down the Raksasas, enchanters, with thy flame. 08-035 HYMN XXXV. Asvins. 16) Give spirit to our prayer and animate our thoughts; slay ye the Raksasas and drive away disease. Accordant, of One mind with Surya and with Dawn, -the presser's Soma, Asvins drink. 17) Strengthen the Ruling Power, strengthen the men of war; slay ye the Raksasas and drive away disease. Accordant, of one mind with Surya and with Dawn, the presser's Soma, Asvins drink. 18) Give strength unto the milch-kine, give the people strength, slay ye the Raksasas and drive away disease. 08-049 HYMN XLIX. Agni. 19) Agni, Praise-singer! Lord of men, God burner-up of Raksasas, Mighty art thou, the ever-present Household-Lord, Home-friend and Guardian from the sky. [09-049] HYMN XLIX. Soma Pavamana. 5 ) Onward hath Pavamana flowed and beaten off the Raksasas, Flashing out splendour as of old. 09-063 HYMN LXIII. Soma Pavanana. 28) O Soma, Indu, very wise, drive, being purified, with thy stream All foes, all Raksasas away. 29) Driving the Raksasas afar, O Soma, bellowing, pour for us Most excellent and splendid strength. 09-086 HYMN LXXXVI. Soma Pavamana. 48) Winner of' power, flow, Soma, worthy of our laud: run onward to the fleece as well-beloved meath. Destroy, O Indu, all voracious Raksasas. With brave sons in the assembly let our speech be bold. 10-036 HYMN XXXVI. Visvedevas. 4) May ringing press-stones keep the Raksasas afar, ill dream, and Nirrti, and each voracious fiend. May the Adityas and the Maruts shelter us. We crave this gracious favour of the Gods to-day. 10-087 HYMN LXXXVII. Agni. 9) With keen glance guard the sacrifice, O Agni: thou Sage, conduct it onward to the Vasus. Let not the fiends, O Man-beholder, harm thee burning against the Raksasas to slay them 19) Agni, from days of old thou slayest demons: never shall Raksasas in fight o'ercome thee. Burn up the foolish ones, the flesh-devourers: let none of them escape thine heavenly arrow. 23) Burn with thy poison turned against the treacherous brood of Raksasas, O Agni, with thy sharpened glow, with lances armed with points of flame. 10-118 HYMN CXVIII. Agni. 7) O Agni, burn the Raksasas with thine unconquerable flame Shine guardian of Eternal Law. 10-152 HYMN CLII. Indra. 3) Drive Raksasas and foes away, break thou in pieces Vrtra'sjaws: O Vrtra-slaying Indra, quell the foeman's wrath who threatens us. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ The Genetic directory was based on small sample, and I agree there is no genetic difference between North Indians and south Indians. The Aryans who came to India was a small group like Muslims, British, and they were able to miscegenate and rule us. We Indians may have mixed blood but it was a small percentage similar to African Americans who has white blood according Harvard Professor Louis Gates becuase Black women were the property of white masters. Indians are the descendents of Rakshasas, and it is a shame we celebrate death of our warriors as a Hindu festival(deepavali).
