Thanks very much Mr. Madhu! Talking about corruption, the table of corruption perception index indicate that there is certain level of corruption even in developed countries like Germany, France, Italy, Switzerland and UK. And it may also be true that bribery in China is not as common as in India (Well! I'm assuming that the makers of the table are uncorrupted!). However, I too agree that banning corruption is not the complete solution for the quoted problem. It is only one factor but I believe it is a major factor. And as our other friends commented, there are certainly some advantages with the population. But the issue of importance is weightage between advantages and disadvantages. And it is the job of people like us to think of ways of deriving as much advantage as possible. But at the same time poulation control is also important. (For your information, China already started imposing very strictly one-child norm on the citizens)

Population Explosion. "What can we do as a ordinary people" this is the purpose of this article. It took a different path entered into corruption. Someone wanted to see a developed nation eventhough it's populated. You forgot to compare with China. If you look at those indices China is much ahead of India. Can you say there is no corruption? What about Germany / France / Italy / UK , you say there is no corruption? What is a swiss bank and how is it operated? Do you say the sports and games are played without any betting? People call it business.

Dear Mr. Krishna Kotha, Thanks for your compliments and interesting comments. I totally agree with you that population explosion has advantages too. But it seems that there is a huge imbalance between the merits and demerits of the population growth, higher being on the negative side. And that is the reason why, India is still in the list of developing nations, although it is highest populated since many years. Definitely, India needs many more means of effective utilisation of population and at the same time not exponential rise in populace.

Dear Mr. Sree Krishna, Here are my views for your two comments. 1. Although, I don't agree fully with your way of comparison of costs between different times, I should say that the answer to your arguement is within. It's true that today's cost of a meal is higher compared to yesteryears, which means that resources are decreasing because of ever increasing rate of consumption, which is due to growth in population. Also, as population increases, and because of limited opputunities, a person for sake of minimal food, cloth and shelter, has to work for lesser salaries. Hence our standard of living comes down. 2. Yes! The problem of corruption is so severe in our country that sometimes, there will be no way other than offering bribe. Frankly speaking, if we just nod our head to what officials are saying, then how the problem will be solved. It can be solved only when everyone starts sacrificing their needs and fighting against bribery. Can you imagine how many people have sacrificed their desires for sake of our independence? When we could successfully sent British out of our country, why can't we kick corruption out of it!! We may not achieve our goal during our time but at least our grand children would enjoy the fruits.

Mr Sampath I am glad some one posted comments in development activities. I am a new member and went thru all the Article categories. Developmental activities & Charities/Social work had 1 posting each and other categories (Humour/Politics etc.,) had hundreds of postings. Are we so much indulged in entertainment and other trivial issues that we are ignoring the real disease plaguing our mother country?. I am sorry to say this very candidly, but it is a fact. Coming to the original subject, it is very interesting one and needs thorough understanding of all the factors. Is population explosion always dangerous to the society? may be not. It could very well be a boon if our leaders can take us in right direction. Consider this. 1. Due to high population india is offering a very big market for companies to sell their goods, which in turn is creating more jobs within the country. 2. I know our students are stressed out in competition in academics, but that competititon is improving the education standards and offering competitive work force to the world. This fact is well acknowledged all over. Indians are smart. IITs are recognised all over the world as knowledge centers ,exceeding MIT or any reputed university standards. 3. Due to high population, our labor costs are very low, which in turn is reducing the manufacturing costs. Good example is china. Most of the goods sold in US are made in china. There is a reason why our forefathers bless us "Satha Puthri Bhava" (May god bless you with hundred sons) Ofcourse i do not deny the fact that population growth has other downsides. But my intention is to add a new dimension to the problem and invite comments from other members. In my opinion, if our leaders stop thinking of themselves and start thinking about people whom they represent, this so called burning problem could very well bring fortune to our country and bring the glory back to us I would like to end my view by requesting all members to lead this discussion further by adding Pros and Cons of population growth. Everyone in this community would appreciate greatly any one who brings a new idea in to the discussion.

Sir, When a group of people were asked to take pledge not to give or take bribes, many of them agreed to take pledge not take bribes. But many of them refused to take pledge for not giving bribes. In a way they are right, because we cannot survive without giving bribes. We are giving the bribes to the official not for any favour, but for doing the work what he is expected to do officially. Suppose for want of money urgently we sell some property and refuse to give bribe to the registrar, he immediately stops the registration in the name of one cause or the other. Then how can we get the money urgently. Can we afford to lose a job just because of not submitting some certificate in time. If we give complaint to the higher official, he immediately throws our complaint into the dustbin, because he also has a share in the bribe. A complaint to the ACB(Anti Corruption Buerau) also does not work here, because the official is smarter than us, he takes bribe through brokers only. Even if we are able to nab one official, the official succeeding him takes more bribes than the previous one, because his needs are more. The conventional methods have failed, so we have to use un conventional methods.

What is happening now is contrary to what you are saying. Our forefathers lived happily with more number of children and we, with less number of children are unable to raise them. Now our standard of living has come down. 20 years back we were able to get a job with an earnings of Rs: 600/- per months. At the same time cost of a meal is Rs: 2.50 only. Now a fresh candidate is able get a job and is paid Rs: 1500/- per month. But the cost of a meal is Rs: 18/- now. Even to get a plot of 300 sq.yards in a city we have to shell out Rs: 20,00,000/- which is equivalent to 1000 years salary. That was not the case earlier. Our forefathers who have more children lived in bigger houses than we do now. They eat more healthy food than us. They breathed more cleaner air than us. They worked less number of hours than us. I feel that the present condition is because of too much commercialization i.e one person tries to do the work of 10 people. In this manner approximately 15% people gained and 85% people are suffering. We can reverse the trend if we can follow some re-engineered rules.
