Do prayers help in case of ‘accidents and deaths?’
- Mrs. sharmila Sanka

The words ‘accident’ and ‘death’ scare us to hell.An accident might be accidental while death is always not. There are thousands of people who might not love their lives but there aren’t any who are not scared or frightened of these. We might not love to live but we definitely hate to die knowingly. Everything on this earth happens only when God intends to do. Everyone knows this truth and so we keep blaming Him for any tragic events. The situation aggravates and forces us to do so. When a tragic thing happens, “does God mean to do so to us? He is heartless” will be our immediate reaction. There is another belief that the present life and the situations both good and bad are based on the deeds we performed in our past lives. God is like a comedian playing to an audience too afraid to laugh. If we believe that God is the wirepuller of the happenings in our lives and that our prayers and His will are ‘the important’ than our actions, I can quote you an incident.Once an air plane crashed and hundreds of people died in that. In that context, Sathya Sai Baba said, “atleast if ONE among those hundreds had chanted Gayatri mantra even ONCE, all those hundreds of people would have been survived.” See the power of Gayatri mantra for that matter any prayer. From the moment I heard this incident from a person who heard this directly from Baba, it got imprinted on my heart. Having a car might be a matter of prestige or comfort, but it is also frightening due to fear of accidents. Ofcourse, I do not deny that death is capable of visiting us in any form. I generally chant this Gayatri mantra whenever iam reminded of it not minding the place, time and situation. Since this incident onwards, I started to chant Gayatri mantra atleast once before I drive my car. Might be this seems to be foolishness to you but I greatly believe in the power of prayer. So I wanted to share this with you too. Nothing wrong in attempting good. I believe in both the above beliefs. For me, nothing happens without God’s will and wish and also, that the present is destined by our past deeds. This conglomeration of beliefs help me love God any way and also do meritorious deeds in this present birth inorder to move on higher and higher in my future births as human being to attain salvation forever. Sorrow occupies our hearts when some one close leaves us and their life on this earth forever. Heart gets tightened with the invisible rope called ‘death.’ It snatches any being at any time. Death is not an invitation which we can foresee but it is an untold accidental snatcher.Death is like a thief who robs our life without our willingness. So we always need to be prepared for it. It doesn’t mean we need to ponder on death but it means we have to lead a worthy life at all times so that we do not regret when the hour of death knocks the door of our ‘heart.’ God is like a natural photographer. Smile at life always for , anytime he may click the picture of our ‘life’ and inorder for him to hang our picture on the walls of Heaven. Any heart cries out in despair at dear one’s death. It is very natural for that person to cry bitterly and feel he is mere living corpse without the dear one. We cry a lot both meaningfully and meaninglessly. We fail to realise that the person who left us is watching all the happenings around him or his corpse. Such person needs prayers. So instead of brooding over anyone’s death continuously, dare to stop for a moment, say prayers to that person so that the soul rests in peace. Peace is the only goal for a soul. So chant Trayambaka mantra which does wonders to any person whom we intend to send our prayers to. They may be for people dead or alive. It helps the soul reach its final goal without any obstruction. It is said, if we keep crying on some one’s death, that soul’s path is being obstructed. So when we love them so much , why do we obstruct their path? Why can’t we help them reach their goal faster and happily just by chanting some prayers? I did the same to my aunt and I even got verification in my sister’s dream that she received my prayers. Wasn’t it awesome? Some happenings are inevitable and I don’t say we can avoid accident or death with our little spiritual effort but I surely feel we can make our ‘Life’ as well as ‘Life after death’ meaningful and worthy with prayers. “Oh God, I humbly bow to your will, but before that promise me you will give me strength to face and live it.” Nothing, absolutely nothing happens in the God's world by mistake - - - Sharmila Sanka
