I can write with authority on this subject because a person underwent a sex change surgery while I was working for a major client in NJ. I would not have known the fact unless I received a message from the HR Director instructing all the employees & contractors as to how to treat the person. The message stated that Paul Oldman has changed gender to become Paula Newwoman.
The message went on to say that we have to be extra courteous in dealing with Paula and not to talk to her like she is a man. I had no intention of talking to Paul/ Paula until then. This message has doubled my curiosity and I started inquiring my co-workers as to the history of Paul/ Paula. They told me that it is the same person, who looks at you odd when ever he passes by your seat.
I remember this guy looking very affectionately when I was in the men's room one day, and I made a quick exit from the room before he would go to the second step. When I asked my co-workers, they told me that I should be cautious of not going to the men's room alone, when he is around. I was happy that this person changed sex and wil not visit the men's room again. Later on I was told that this has become a problem for the women employees at work.
Now he goes to the ladies room and tries to start a conversation with who ever is in there. They still remember the person as a man till last week, and are not keen on using the ladies room while the person is around. A friend of mine was working in QA on the Y2K project at that time. He was the guy who came up with the simple solution to Y2K. He said that all we need to do is to replace all 'Y' s with 'K' s.
So, if you have a message that reads:
You ask me why your name is missing from the list. He will change it to: Kou ask me whk kour name is missing from the list.
This friend of mine came up with a solution to the sex change person's messaging issue. He came up with a program that will scan all the group messages going out to that person, and implement the program like this:
If message addresed to 'Paula Newwoman', then replace 'h' with 'sh'. I hope things are simple as the programs he comes up with. I left the client few years ago. I was told that half the women employees working in that project quit their jobs, and the other half are suing the employer.
