New Delhi: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued a directive to all schools under its affiliation to waive off the fees of the single girl child, said a board statement Friday.
According to the statement, all the affiliated schools will grant full waiver of fees including tuition and other fees except meals and transportation fees from class VI onwards. The facility would be available to girl students who are single child of their parents.
'The aim is to promote single child norm and encourage education among the girls,' said a board spokesperson. The directive was issued last week.
While schools affiliated with CBSE have a choice to implement the directive with immediate effect or from the next academic session, those who have applied for the affiliation have to implement it with immediate effect on getting the board's consent.
The schools have also been directed to send a quarterly report on fee concession henceforth. And non-affiliation of these provisions will attract necessary action under the affiliation by-laws of the CBSE.
However, the statement has also said that the parents would have to intimate the schools about any change in the single status of the girl, failing which appropriate action would be taken.
