Why is ‘LOVE’ hated?
- Mrs. sharmila Sanka

It is merely a 4 letter word in the dictionary of English language but it is capable of sacrificing the 4 R’s that obstruct its path, they being Relation, Riches, Religion and Reverence. That powerful feeling of passion which doesn’t care for compassion is named ‘Love.’ Liking Overwhelmed Eternally is LOVE. This word thrills many tender hearts while it drills the older hearts with rage and hatred. What is considered to hinder the growth of Love in the modern Era and what is the reason behind it? The term ‘aged’ is considered to be ‘experienced’ and ‘knowledgeable.’ Mostly elderly people object this ‘Love.’ Parents raise their children with the same love and care and they still view their grown ups as children of tiny feet who cannot step forward without their guidance and advice. They think their children are full of love for them and when the same children approach them to express their love towards their beloved, their first reaction is a simple ‘NO.’ Their immediate reaction is to say their kindness has been misused and taken to their advantage. At this instance, parents feel their children have moved so far from their objectives and dreams, flew so high than their aspirations and that they have become uncontrollable and their hard earned fame will be destroyed with the roots in the sight of the society and their relatives. They also warn that they dare not break the traditions, customs and the fame of their family tree. Children in love retort their parents saying their negative thoughts about love are due to the vast generation gap and that they are not children as they view them to be but that they have grown and learnt so much in life and that they do not make any decisions for life in haste. They affirm theirs is pure and selfless love and never an infatuation which goes after the riches or beauty. As per above thoughts of children and parents, both the views seem to be correct but there is something that is lacking between them. It is not the ‘Generation Gap’ as children name it or not the ‘Modern Trend’ parents name it as. It is the lacking of ‘Understanding’ in the hearts of the Parents and Children. They express all of their emotions and views be it positive or negative except this crucial humane characteristic feature which is ‘Understanding.’ Children or youngsters should realize that Admiration is momentous; true love is eternal. They ought to be cautious and make wise choices. They should not put down their parents with foolish and petty infatuation. Perennial liking can never replace even a moment of Love. First try to understand what true love is. Give some time to make decisions. If the children understand their parents, their reaction and their future life properly and if they very well know their parents will live a life of a corpse because of their love, they will think very well before taking any selfish decision. Youngsters, too much of emotion causes commotion; be stable. Live in love; do not fall in love. Firstly parents ought to advise their children at the right time about life and their decisions that impact life. If the parents have confidence and an understanding towards their children that they are matured enough to take important decisions by themselves in life and that their lives are meant to be lived by them and not to be ruled by elders’ orders and rules, they will very well give their children the liberty to take the choice of leading their lives be it good or bad. They ought to realize that they are the ones who have decided to bind themselves with their own choices and that they are the ones who are going to face the consequences too. It is very tough and impracticable for elders or parents to act like a lotus unaffected by the water in the pond. But instead of forcing them to stay away from marrying their beloved and hence appear as disagreeable parents before their children, it is better to first try to make the children understand in a selfless way rather than with selfish motive. Even then if they don’t listen, it is wise to let them take the choice of falling into their own pit of ‘responsibility’ as they are the ones to dig their pits. Elders should let them face life be it good or bad as per their stubbornness as they do not care about the riches, relations or respect. Anyway youngsters in love do not heed to any advices in the world. Instead the children as well as their beloveds develop hatred towards elders as they stood as major obstructions for their marriage approval. At such times instead of appearing like an hindrance to them, in the modern era it is wise on their part to approve and selflessly pray to the divine energy to bless the couple with happiness and peace all their lives and then leave the rest to Him. Every one has to ponder on the fact that not every youngster’s love story will repeat bitter history. If it is true love, it will not be seen; it will be felt. So with a broadened heart, selfless motive and a sweet smile, accept and bless their true love which is not filled with infatuation. Do not Hate Love for they are both opposites and do not ever bind them together at any cost. Love is not to die or to be hated but it has to be lived as pure as the Love of God. Be rich at love and poor at hatred. Remember we are not the doers and everything is wished by Him. Play a noble role of parents in the great drama of Life. “True Love should not be like butter which melts away but like that of a hard stone amidst happiness and sorrow.”-Sharmila Sanka Written on Nov 18th 2005
