AID ACROSS THE FRONTIERS
- Mr. Raghava Gavaravarapu
  Page: 1 of 1
AID ACROSS BORDER In an act of being remorseful over recent bomb explosions occurred at Delhi, an Urdu Daily Editor Mr.Aziz Burneh offered ‘ED Prayers’ at Raj Ghat. Aggrieved Over the muslim being chastisised for Ultras’ ugly designs, he expressed his anguish in the form of ‘prayer’. Mr.Aziz’s expression of grief is certainly appreciable, in the background of Sangh Parivar organizations like RSS, BJP running a virulent campaign constantly against muslims, lending credulence to notion spread among Hindu community that Fidayeen actions are not being denounced by the country’s fellow muslim brethren. It would be gravely inappropriate to say that whimsical activities of foreign Mercenaries are not being flayed by mohammedians. It is not to be forgotten that Muslim leaders from Kashmir valley have already disapproved the Delhi bomb blasts. In what way muslims can shoulder responsibility for the actions of some militant groups? Unfortunately, the very involvement of a lot of muslims puts the muslim community in an embarrassing situation. In fact, muslims in India are a lot different in every aspect from fellow muslims of other nations. For instance, when Taliban, Al-Qaida were ruling the roost in Afghanisthan, a heap of Muslim population across the globe partook in the destructional activities carried out in the name of ‘Jehadi’. Around this time none of the muslim community in India was enthusiastic to embrace ‘Jehadi’. This shows the uniqueness of Indian Muslims. In reality, Indian muslims are aghast at the violent path being perpetuated by cross- border terrorism. By way of fomenting jeehadi elements, Pakistan rulers are endangering the lives of muslims. The bomb explosions in India occurring at regular alacrity with will provide as much ammunition to Hindutva elements. It is a well publicized fact that the Delhi blasts were the handiwork of terrorists claiming to represent Lashkar-e-Toiba. Despite being outlawed by Pakistan Lashkar-e-Toiba continues to enjoy the patronage of some people inside Pak Government. The cross-border has not subdued at all, inspite of numerous assurances provided by Pakistan Prez Parvez Musharaf to the ex-Prime Minister Mr.Vajpayee and to the present Prime Minister Mr.Manmohan singh. It is probable that Mr.Musharaf may be impinged by fundamentalist forces in Pakistan from keeping his promise. Neverthless, it is assumed by one and all that the Pak Prez is not doing enough to choke the cross border terrorism. It is worthwhile to note that the Commission set up for doing exploratory work, in the aftermath of Sep 11 attacks on Washington, recommended that Washington should exert pressure on Pakistan, asking the latter to initiate steps expeditiously for blocking the terrorism. The same commission pinpointed that Pakistan has become a rallying point for insurgents and their activities. In the context of the commission remarks, it will be a hard pill to swallow for USA President George Bush, as he provided a cover-up for Musharaaf, commending him as a trusted ally, for his support on waging war against terrorism. It is an undeniable fact that Bangladesh has fast turned out to be new safe Heaven for terrorism. The terrorist groups banned by India and Pakistan, are conducting their operations from Bangladesh. However these outfits continue to receive shadow support from Islamic fundamentalist groups based in Pak. Guerilla operaions do not originate from a particular territory. Their aim is to engage themselves in brutal killings of innocent citizens, thereby degenerating the living conditions of countrymen. It comes as no surprise that Pakistan has come under the cloud of terrorist attacks. The recent attacks on Karachi stand testimony to this. On quite number of occasions Pakistan Prez Musharaaf portrayed terrorists as “Freedom Fighters”. He stopped short of calling them so only after being repudiated time and again by Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh that gruesome killers don’t deserve to be put in the league of Freedom fighters. A few months back, a senior rank Minister in Pakistan Government made a bold confession that he lent assistance to militants, who crossed over from the Borders of the valley. Speaking in a Seminar, the same dignitary had the audacity to tell that he envisages his cherished dream of driving the Battle Tank on his own to reach New Delhi. It is a misplaced theory that indulging in cross border terrorism will drive New Delhi to the path of negotiations for holding talks on Kashmir. If Pakistan engrosses in such a strategy then it is hugely mistaken. Such tactics will rather misfire on it. The real possibility of taking India to the dialogue table will exist only when the terrorists abjure violence. A theory gaining the rounds is that recent unpleasant evens at Karachi were executed by a new off-shoot of Lashkar-E-Toiba. Islamabad should realize that such ill steps would dampen the ongoing peace process beween the two countries. At the time of extending succor to quake-hit victims in Kashmir, it was heartening to see that there were no inhibitions while opening up entry Points at LOC. These entry points will greatly benefit in disbursing relief to the sufferers. Both India and Pakistan did not act swiftly prior to opening the LOC points. India displayed its cold feet when it came to convening the meeting of external affairs Ministerial secretaries. Pakistan was found equally guilty at not commencing its relief work for 16 days after India-Pak agreeing to open the points at LOC. Quoting the words of an Indian Official, ‘Gulf News’ external affairs wing Editor attributed Pak’s laxity to its disinclination to accept quake-aid from India. “Considering the aspect of historical or tropical oneness of two countries, India is constrained to stretch its hand to Pakistan, but sadly Pak is in a reluctant mood to agree for Indian assistance”, added Gulf News referring to the information it received from Indian Official. India has taken a lead in announcing certain confidence building measures Like sanctioning Visas to Senior citizens living around Wagah border such calculated steps will enhance Indo-Pak people contacts. Sadly Pakistan’s reciprocity has been lackadaisical. Pakistan needs to step up issuing more visas to Indians as Pak-issued visas are counted in number. Blocking the people-to-people contacts is against the spirits of ‘SAARC declaration’. Hence, Pakistan may be required to cite its explanation on its policy. New vistas of opportunities opened up for the progress of SAARC nations. Indian Prime Minister stressed that all members in SAARC ought to have the right on all avenues, which provide access to the movement of transportation in these areas. This will enable Pak in shipping its goods through highways in India to Nepal, Bangladesh. This virtually means South Asia will shape up to become a separate entity. Mr.Manmohan Singh’s intent underscored the same at SAARC convention.
