Articles: My Experience | ‘Escapism’-First Weapon In This Modern Age - Mrs. sharmila Sanka

“I did it”, you say when your work succeeds or “Others spoilt it”, you say when it fails. You are elated with success and with failure you search for innumerable ways to blame on others. Escapism is the root cause of blaming. Why is ‘escapism’ your first reaction? It has become your first default weapon in this modern age. Is there any use in escaping from the situation by blaming? To err is human; to blame it on some one else is much more human?
It is common for you to take pride in success and experience great pain in failure forgetting the truth that both success and failure are two sides of life. Happiness is not obtained from happiness; it is achieved only though suffering. The value of brightness is much appreciated only after experiencing the darkness. It is wise to have equanimity. Treat both the happiness and sorrow as the stepping stones for a life but never try to escape from the situation.
Only when you face the situation will you become courageous which will in turn help you gain confidence. No matter how critical the situation is, you will then be able to face it. The true satisfaction is never achieved after you reach the top but only on your sojourn to reach the top. The problems, solutions, actions, reactions, skills, knowledge are all a part of your journey which help you reach your goal.
You have escaped once but it is not possible every time. It drenches you in ignorance. Escapism is a weapon that destroys you against your wish. Instead of trying to escape from doing your duty, try to escape from doing wrong, speaking lies, acting against your own conscience and doing against the will of God. Stay away from the extreme feelings of pride and pain caused due to victory or defeat. The more you are attached to the result, the more intense is your pain when you are disappointed. The only means, therefore, to escape from both pride and pain is to do your best with no trace of ego and leave the rest to the Will of God.
'Escape from falsehood; escape from sin; escape from all that is wrong.' – Sharmila Sanka
