Articles: Education/Training | Telugu at University of California, Berkeley (USA) - Dr. Venkateswara Rao Vemuri
| |
With the help and support from Telugu people all over the world, the University of California at Berkeley has launched an initiative to teach Telugu regularly at the Center for South Asia Studies. As this is a community supported effort, we need a corpus of $5 million to hire a tenure-track professor who can teach, conduct research and put Telugu on the world map.
As of July 2007, we raised $200K. The university will begin to offer courses from Aug 2007. Initially, the program will be staffed by a temporary lecturer and two introductory courses per year will be offered. We are anticipating an enrollment of 20 students.
To make this project successful, we have to bring the corpus to a minimum of $1.5 million as quickly as possible and then to $5 million, to make this into an internationally recognizable program that Telugu People can be proud of!
You can find more about this project, the names of donors, and more at the official web site
http://www.ias.berkeley.edu/southasia/telugu.html
If a fraction of the Telugu families living in the USA gives a one-time gift of $100/, we can reach our goal effortlessly. This is not too much to ask to protect our language, our heritage and to put Telugu on the world map.
