News on TV that the govt spent crores of rupees on sports stadiums.Constructed two/three gigantic stadiums for sports activities in the outskits to encourage sports men.afro/asian games going on or what. Sports is an essential activity that is required for a human being.I too did swimming for sometime and I understand the importance.Is arts and cuture not that so important?'AVI Mana sanskuthi samprdayalaki pratiroopalu gava' Mari vaati meeda ee savathi thali prema enduku? Another column in news is that the world famous bismillah khan has no money for his illness.Is Just providing 1 lakh for his cure enough ?(Now dont say he spent all money , so he had the problem).If this is the case with bimillah khan, can you imagine the plight of other artists who are depending on music? How are the opportunies for them.I am not talking about film music.There are competitions being held on TV and on stage, some people getting absorbed in film too.that is good.Much is being done to it. I am talking about artists who have learnt our Indian classical music. We got around 3/4 gigantic stadiums in hyd .How many sabhas do we have for music and dance?There are one or two .How often do programmes take place there?How filled are they?I have only heard of ravindra bharathi which is the one good dias for musical programmes.Many of the music programmes are still taking place in temples where you dont have good echo sticks.This is discoraging to artists Hyderabad has become the countrie's sport capital now.Where do we stand in cultural activities? For us arts means film....Other arts are not arts? What is going to happen of those who have learnt music in guru shiishya param para and are traditinal artists. I am not saying there are not many learning classical music in hyd.I am only saying they dont have enough opportunites,good associations and good sabhas to encourage them. I know about sabhas that have dreamt about making their sabha like that of music academy in madras .One or two years they have been inviting people like mondallin srinivas,amjad ali khan and well known artists.They have sunk to debts.Can govt give grants to such sabhas and help them nourish well?When we can spend crores of rupees on sports ,can we not spend some thousands of rupees on culture. And about television.We have around 6 private telugu channels,none of them giving classical programmes for music. Now days vissa channel started a music programme thou, which is encouraging. One day I was surprised to see a letter to the DD ppl to stop those music programmes. What is the reason that is driving people towards western POP.I see in the V channel hundreds of them going to those POP shows to make albums .What is that ,that is killing our art?Dont say they are not good, it a shame to even think so. I know people who have learnt music well and have not taken music as their profession .They have done that seeing people like bismillah khan suffer due to finances.I personally know musicains who have sufferd for money. If this is teh case with this generation what about the next generation. mana music, dance maruguna padi poothe ela? Mana identity etla?Koncham alo chinchandi.
