Swamiji, in his unique style of presentation, explained that every
relationship is a learning experience and we should take advantage of our
learnings in leading a happy life rather than being overcome by sad
feelings. Swamiji explained three types of love - by egoists, by wounded
hearts and those by mature souls and pointed out that once we realize the
type of love we are in we should start handling them with appropriate
self-directed behavioral adjustments and by forgiving. Similarly, in our
daily lives we also deal with personalities who could be termed as drainers
and strainers for their energy draining and fatiguing (physically and
mentally) qualities, respectively. While we cannot change or reform all of
such people, by learning to co-exist with them due to our own behavioral
change pays rich dividends in terms of gaining simple, unmitigated bliss. A
take-home message that Swamiji insisted on in dealing with painful or
unpleasant experiences is the understanding of the simple realization that
'experience is just a thought' – what an enlightened way to look at it! So
true, for example, the person or persons causing a bad experience go away
but it is the thought that clings to our minds. If we realize this and just
learn to eradicate such thoughts, then where is the pain? There is only one
thing left – HAPPINESS. Indianapolis residents who attended Swamiji's
discourse were very touched by his depth of knowledge and his down-to-earth
simplicity and expressed by their heartfelt thanks for visiting the temple
and for the enlightening words of wisdom.
