AP CS holds review on Hydrology Project Hyderabad, July 10 (INN): Chief Secretary I.Y.R. Krishna Rao held a meeting today with officials to review on the Hydrology Project implementation by Ground Water Department in Andhra Pradesh.
The World Bank assisted Hydrology Project objective was to improve the institutional and organizational arrangements, technical capabilities and physical facilities available for measurement, validation, collation, analysis, transfer and dissemination of hydrological, hydro-meteorological and water quality data for basic water resource evaluation.
The Chief Secretary said that with 75% of grant from World Bank, Government of India and 25% share from the State Government the project is aimed for improving the observation well network monitoring of ground water levels and water quality. Up gradation of chemical laboratories, establishment of computerized data centres, enhancing the technical capabilities of departmental personnel by providing specialized trainings, better understanding of the ground water regime.
The data generated by the Department is being used in the state for implementing the water management programmes for drought proofing measures and categorization of areas for taking up recharge measures.
While reviewing on the water basins the Officers informed to the Chief Secretary, that 736 water basins are functional in the State and each basin will cover minimum of two Mandals. In future water resources development projects such as hydraulic structure construction, irrigation development through surface water and ground water will be based on accurate information and thus designed appropriately and economically.
Improving water use efficiency, study for ground water sustainability, create awareness to the farming community, Adarsha Rythu, Industrialists, School children on water sources availability, planning, management and conservation, conjunctive use planning in Irrigation commands, demarcating ground water quality affected areas, urbanization effects on ground water are the outcome of the project.
World Bank was rated the Andhra Pradesh State Ground Water Department as Highly Performing State in Hydrology Project, Chief Secretary added.
Irrigation Secretary Sasibhushan, Hydrology, Water Resources Department Chief Engineer Hanumantha Rao and others attended the meeting.
