Osman Sagar, hugely popular as Gandipet lake opened the 8th gate, after a decade later on Saturday. It is the first time after inflows reached 1790 feet when 8 gates were open. The last time the gates were opened in 2000 September. Gandipet as a popular tourist destination has lost its charm during last ten years as the reservoir hardly receives inflows to open its gates for surplus flood water. When the news of Gandipet gates were open visitors from twin cities flocked the reservoir in droves to have a rare sight of flood water gushing through its gates. Mir Osman Ali Khan, the VIIth Nizam of Hyderabad city built Osman Sagar dam across river Musi. It covers a catchment area of 46 square kilometers.
