Over 700 years old historic Golconda fort is getting ready for Independence Day Flag hosting ceremony on 15th Aug, for the first time in history. The Golconda or Golla Konda, a ruined fort was once the capital of Golconda Sultanate of Qutubh Shahi dynasty (c.1518–1687), situated 11 km west of Hyderabad. The region was famous for the mines that have produced the world's most famous and coveted gems, including the Hope Diamond, The Eye of the Idol (aka the Nassak Diamond), the Koh-i-Noor and the Darya-i-Noor. The fort used to have a vault where once the famous Kohinoor and Hope diamonds were stored along with other diamonds.
