Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu approved the design to turn Swaraj Maidan in Vijayawada into the city square. He said that the city square will be developed into an iconic tourist attraction in the state. According to the plan, shopping complexes, greenery and parking facilities are to be arranged in the nine-acre PWD Grounds.
