As Holi being my favourite festival than any one i always had grt time and this time i have planned my time for a good cause rather than like the past holis... And not atleast like last year wherein i had spent my holi without my family members but struck in an indoor holi party(o hate that sort of celebration...)
Holi well, i think it is celebrated much in north india than in South i suppose, but i heard some part of AP people celebrate it as vasanthothasvam. This festival is specially celebrated for welcoming the new season(spring) and to drive out the evil in the form of burning wood (burning of holika)...
The basic thing i kept in mind is i would be enjoying it with more healthier and happier not only with all but for environmental sake.. as the colors which are made of toxic chemical affcting mostly the skin/hair.. and every year i endup with either heavy cold/fever/cough and with diffent patterns of colors struck to my hair and i endup looking like a weird witch(post holid effects!!)...
Hey let me name few of colors which are hazardeous to our health...
Black color: has lead oxide causes rennal failure.
GREEn: Coppersulphate causes allergic symptoms. eyes, puffiness and temporery blindness
Silver: aluminum bromide cause cancer.
Blue: contains Prussian blue which leads to contact dermititis.
Red : contains mercury sulphate causes skin cancer.
apart from this people these days are burning celophane types, some plastic wastes along with wood(Holikas)... Lots of air pollution and chocking in respiratory system..
Recently i have took part in a novel programme namely "Khelo Holi Eco friendly" which contempleted by the Social Forestry Department, through ecoclubs esablished under the National Green Corps Programme.. I had a great time in supporting this event and tranining session where in i learnt so much about making natural colors and spreading this information into the market for huge sale.
Ok here it goes ..
Green color: Leaves of Gulmohar, spinach, corainder are used.
Red color: Beetroot/rose petals/ Palash, pangara.
Blue color: Neel seeds and some fruits of blue color.
Violet color: Ester or jakaranda flowers.
Yellow color: Marigold petals + Besan(gram flour)+ Turmeric.
Turmeric here acts as antiseptic
Alum: An binder
Maida: Makes the color soft.
There are all processed before 2 months and manufacutured...
But hey guys u dont need to worry to make a natural color all by yourself back in your home.. Try to pick some Marigold petals and dip in water a day before ... and boil them in the morning .. add few drops of cooking oil... And filter the petals.. from the vessel.. Yellowish orange to dark yellow natural color is ready for you... si why wait.. go and have a splashing natural holi... 1st of March...
