It is very unfortunate that about 160 people were killed in the air crash near Mangalore. The accident was reported to have occured while landing on the International Air Port at Mangalore. Fortunate few were saved.

Is it human error or a mere accident ? Nothing can be said until the Black Box is located. The cause of the accident can be revealed only later. According to the reports the plane landed more than 2000 feet away from the targeted landing area. This was suspected to be the cause for the accident. Surprisingly, it was reported that there were no indications from the pilot/s, prior to the landing, about any impending dangers. It was further reported that the runway was some kind of " Table Top Runway " which was constructed on a hill and it created " optical illusion ". It is reported that only experienced pilots could land planes on such runways. We can not now imagine what could have happened at that crucial moment of landing.

Statistical information about the accidents says that one out of four plane accidents are occuring at the time of landing. If that is the case intensive research should take place to prevent such accidents. After all human life is more precious than any thing else.
