Active Blogs | Popular Blogs | Recent Blogs TLCA founding member and past President of TLCA, Dr. Bandaru Sivaram Reddy, age 78, passed away on Monday, April 20, 2009 in Somerville, New Jersey. Dr. Reddy was born and raised in Nellore, India. Since 1971, he lived in Suffern, New York before moving to Bridgewater, New Jersey in 2007.
Dr. Bandaru S. Reddy was widely recognized as a leading authority on colon cancer prevention by nutritional manipulation and pharmaceutical agents. At the time of his passing he was with the Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy, Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. Before that, he was Chief of Divisional Nutritional Carcinogenesis and Chemoprevention and Associate Director at the Institute for Cancer Prevention, Valhalla, New York.
Dr. Reddy received many acknowledgements for his work including the De Witt Goodman Award 1999 by the American Association for Cancer Research in "recognition of his contribution to our understanding of the role of Nutritional and other naturally-occurring agents and their synthetic analogues as protective factors in relation to colon cancer prevention", and the National Citizen's Overseas Award "for his unique contributions in the field of Cancer Research", 2002 presented by Mr. P.V. Narasimha Rao, Honorable Prime Minister of India.
Dr. Reddy was also active in the Telugu community and was instrumental in starting the Telugu Association of North America and the Bridgewater Hindu Temple.
He is survived by his wife Subhashini, three children, Sudhakar, Sada, and Srikanth, their spouses and children, who all loved him dearly and will miss him.
