Since its announcement, the Samsung Series 7 Chronos has stopped collecting superlatives. Presented as a MacBook Killer given its technical characteristics, the care taken in its look and its price rather attractive, we look forward to submitting our battery of tests to tell you what we think. Marketed under reference 700Z5A, it came to writing about a week ago and we have not left since. So today we can assure you that it is a very good laptop, efficient, pleasant to use, well finished and well equipped. Of course, everything is not perfect yet and we'll see, but we must recognize that it imposes no evil among models counselor in a diagonal of 15.6 inches.
Slab edges, and mate
Already because thanks to the integration of the slab in a chassis with thin edges, the Series 7 Chronos retains acceptable measurements (36.2 x 23.8 x 2.4 cm) for a weight that is content to 2.3 Kg . His fine screen (LED backlight) has the advantage of being matte anti-reflective treatment and provide a definition of 1600 x 900 pixels. Two good points are not enough for us to wrap this screen fully. Indeed, the panel is TN and offers tight viewing angles. Just our eyes out there the axis of the latter that the colors fade, which is a shame. However, the screen (topped with a webcam of 1.3 MP) retains its stiffness thanks to the brushed aluminum plate that serves as a cover to the computer, and the hinges leave an impression of solidity.

At the hinge, the built-in speakers 2 x 1.5 W supported by a sound processing said SoundAlive, Pavilion DV4 battery capable of simulating a sound rendering in 3D. Needless to say that if the pre-selection of typical equalizer make a good impression and are effective (movie, music, etc..) 3D mode offers made very passable. Overall, the laptop's audio performance is disappointing, with a lack of clear and low saturation happens fairly quickly when mounting the volume.
On the basis, however, no disappointment. The keypad uses the full width of the laptop to be as complete as possible, with numeric keypad. Chiclet type, this keyboard is very good. The key travel is quite short but the touch is soft, with a rebound interesting when we start to use typewriter mode. Each key has a backlight intensity variable distributed by the edges white-transparent, while their black coating consists of a soft plastic. Small blue activity LEDs have been incorporated into the SHIFT key, Mute, and WiFi Fn Lock, story to tell at a glance whether they are active or not.
Well thought out, well-equipped
To improve the usability of this laptop, the touchpad to the plastic frame is very large, with a very large work surface. The click is integrated over the entire surface, which makes it possible to point to click with a single finger. Of course, the simple gestures are recognized perfectly. It scrolls very naturally pages with two fingers and it is "prev" and "next" sliding three fingers to the left or right. Nothing incredible in this level, but the size of the stone, its surface very slippery and understanding of gestures by the Inspiron 1525 system is sufficient to provide an experience score quite up to par.

Regarding the connection that takes place on the edges, not the back, a single port for memory cards 4 in 1 front (SD and MMC), a USB 2.0 port and a combo DVD burner slot- in the right, the rest being left with two USB 3.0 ports, an RJ45 port, an HDMI port, a VGA output (with adapter owner, not a DisplayPort as you can read sometimes), a combo mic / headphone 3.5 mm jack, power port and a port Kensington. Storage is assigned to a disk with two partitions at startup (270 and 403 GB), supported by 8GB Express Cache technology which allows faster access to the most requested files.
Our tests have shown that it is rather fast, and because it is a model running at 7200 rev / min. In Cystal Disk Mark on the primary partition, the sequential speeds are measured 114 MB / s read and 109 MB / s write. As for the Express Cache 8GB, this small SSD soldered to the motherboard allows, in practice, to speed up the loading of the most used applications and improve system responsiveness. The result is not identical to that obtained with an SSD, but the machine appears much more pleasant to use than identical configuration without Express Cache. Small test after reset Express Cache, the first cold start of the computer is 39 seconds before displaying the Dell Inspiron 6000 desktop. The second start in the same conditions takes only 21 seconds. Yes, the technology Intel Express Cache works so well when it comes to speed things up for the most common tasks.

The Express Cache to mention the lack of a true SSD
As for the rest of the specifications included on our test model a quad-core Core i7-2675QM 2.2 GHz (3.1 GHz Turbo - 6 MB cache), 8 GB of DDR3-1333 and dedicated graphics card AMD Radeon HD 6750M with 1 GB of RAM, reinforcements from the Intel HD 3000 integrated circuit for demanding applications such as video games. Not to mention WiFi n and Bluetooth 3.0. Finally, the battery has 8 cells and has a total capacity of 80 Wh. Regarding the latter, we must admit that autonomy is honorable for the Series 7 Chronos saw its level of equipment. If completely empty of all its juice in just under 1:07 BatteryEater (soliciting the graphics card), it took 6:37 to office use (30% brightness, WiFi on) and 4:45 of video playback (720p in VLC, 80 % brightness, WiFi off). Load of 20 to 80% is relatively rapidly in 73 minutes.
