Test: Galaxy Tab 2 7

After being enchanted by the Nexus 7 and very convinced by the Kindle Fire HD, let's look at another major player in the tablet market 7 (10 inches): Samsung.

Released a few months ago, the Galaxy Tab 2 7-inch was passed between the cracks of our net. But we managed to alpaguer for you to deliver a full review. Despite its "great" age, is it big enough to compete with products from Dell Inspiron 1545  and Amazon?

Look rather plain, but effective finish

Upon unpacking, Galaxy Tab 2 7'' tablet appears as a "classic" and could even blamed a lack of character level design. The dimensions and weight are correct, without being transcendent (122 x 10 x 194 mm to 345 grams) and the shell is plastic. If it is pleasant to the touch and gives rounded machine, it inspired by the greatest strength. Once in hand, the GT2 is a bit wider than a Nexus 7 and the absence of anti-slip raises fears few slips ups. Overall, however, the finish of the tablet is good, curvaceous design for a good harmony between the hull and display.

Connectivity, the GT2 has a big advantage over the Nexus 7 and Kindle Fire HD: the presence of a micro-SD port can accommodate 32 GB card is good news, especially the low amount of available memory on the model tested (8 GB) does not install much. Apart from that, the rest is still very classic: a 3.5 mm jack, a port owner (bad point) for charging and connecting to a Dell XPS M1330 PC. Note that, oddly, the tablet can not be charged from a computer and must be connected to the mains. As the Nexus 7, regrets the absence against micro-HDMI port to connect the tablet to a TV.

The GS2 also obtains a photo sensor back, which could transform the tablet camera side. Unfortunately, with only 3.2 megapixels and no flash, this feature is a pure gadget. Damage.

Advanced age: a defect?

Outside the micro-SD slot, nothing seems to distinguish the time 7 inch GT2 competition. Does the screen (PLS technology) can reverse the trend? Not really. Once again, the tablet is a good average on this point, the screen (1024 x 600 pixels) color faithful enough, but lacking a bit of warmth and a maximum brightness rather feeble. The Dell E4310 Battery viewing angle is good, but is slightly lower than a Nexus 7 and a Kindle Fire HD. In addition, it seems particularly sensitive to traces of any kind and requires constant maintenance. Although, again, it is a constant on this type of machine, if we think a little more problematic here.

However, the situation is much better on its autonomy, which ensures quiet 8h-9h typical usage (surfing, email, games, reading, with WiFi and Bluetooth enabled.) In optimum conditions. Same discourse concerning the autonomy of video playback in 720p, which amounts to 6:23. A very respectable result, placing the tablet in the upper basket.

Before discussing the  HP G4 Battery performance of the machine, let us put things in perspective: output in March 2012, the 7-inch Galaxy Tab 2 does certainly not enjoy the same features as the machines out in the last quarter. However, it stands up very well. Admittedly, the benchmarks show results well below those of a Nexus 7 (which can boast to score almost twice about AnTuTu Benchmark), but the use, there is not much thing to complain about.

Jelly Bean is in place

In fact, our first instinct when you turn on the  HP G6 Battery  tablet was to check the availability of Jelly Bean. This is good news, since the owners of GS 2 will take advantage of this excellent update for Android, which provides a nicer interface or divinatory power of Google Now. We do not, however, we will expand more on the OS, our test of the Nexus 7 is more comprehensive on the subject. Just know that the tablet accommodates itself.

In the end, our sense vis-¨¤-vis the 7-inch Galaxy Tab 2 is quite mixed even if it is the positive prevails. Released in March, the Samsung tablet is struggling to fight against a Nexus 7 better specified and more powerful but has the advantage to have a micro-SD port, essential option for many buyers. At almost the same price (the GS 2 may be around 220 €), it is better to opt for the DELL tablet and Google, unless you are totally refractory to the lack of memory expansion. Anyway, the Galaxy Tab 2 7-inch is a good camera that "ages" well and even found a second wind thanks to its compatibility with Jelly Bean.
