The article is inspiring and it is one of many such articles....but I have made my resolution to
--" follow rules and maintain cleanliness" to the maximum I could do.

Posted by: Mrs. roze raj At: 18, Jul 2003 10:12:42 PM IST SORRY POSTED THE PREVIOUS MESSAGE PREMATURELY
One day hopefully people will learn, things will change and India becomes a safe and livable place.
Secondly let's not misinform our children as our fathers and teachers lied to us in our childhood. Garbage like " The greatest nation on this planet, a KARMA BHOOMI, A Sacred land, a land of this , a land of that and the rubbish. It really disgusts and makes you revolt when you grow up and find that things are exactly opposite.
When we say its the people we live with that makes the society or the country, what's the big deal about the land? what is so sacred about it? If at all anything , it's a "KHARMA BHOOMI", not a karma bhoomi.
Lets not misinform them. Lets not play with their emotions. When they grow up and come out in to the real society and learn things for them selves they only loose respect for people, the teachers, the society and the whole country. If they have to hate and be disgusted with things let them be when they are young and hot blooded. At leat out of that, what ever state that is, they can do some thing collectively that may change the way we live in that jungle for better some day.
Well nothing wrong with dreaming.
Posted by: Dr. Pratap Kumar Paruchuru At: 8, Jul 2003 6:58:57 PM IST My full sympathy with the poor Indian president. INDIA IS BEYOND REPAIR. Even god can't help it. A poet said " a country is not its soil but its people". If it were the case there is nothing but disgrace, embarassment and shame to be identified as an Indian. ( My sincere apologies if I hurt any body's feelings, it kills me too, honestly because I am as much an Indian as any other Indian is, if not more). More than two thirds of us Indians are the most incredibly stupid and ignorent buch of two legged animals inhabiting this planet. The other one third, the so called literate section are the most ingenious cheats you will ever come across in this world. the gap between these two groups widens year by year and so India becomes more and more unlivable place. Exploitation, corruption and cheating from one group and looting from the other group( Thats the only thing they can do. They haven't any other survival skills). In between all this a commoner like you, me and the poor Indian president can only scratch our heads and wonder what the "HELL" is going on. Nobody can change hell. The best one can do is as the old man said "Non cooperation with what is evil".
Sure you and I can be international best. More disciplined than the Brits when we are in Briain, more workaholic and ambitious than the Americans when in America and so on. On the same token we are worse crooks than our brothers in India when we are in India. Afterall isn't that what we were taught at schools when we were kids " Be a Roman in Rome " ?
Jokes aside, thats an old saying. Let's not be Indians any more anywhere as it is a shameful thing. Lets continue to be at our Britsh best, American best or what ever best even when we get home ( India ). That is not "showing off", certainly not to be ashamed off.
Posted by: Dr. Pratap Kumar Paruchuru At: 8, Jul 2003 6:35:53 PM IST We can do many things.... Only the main thing we need to have is strong desire to do some thing for the mother land.
If you try to compare with other countries with respect to the things which are a little bit less. You never get the answer to " What can we do for India?"
Our Bharat is The best in many things. Try to explore them first and spend atleast the micro part of your time to do some thing really helpful to Bharat being an Indian.
My friends- Nothing will happend to India, If you are not ready to do some thing good. My request is dont try compare with other countries who has less population, more resources and lot many other things. when we try to compare two entities, we need to consider every constraint and give your statement on this. So, try to stop -ve propagation first.
India is developing and changing rapidly. The only thing we need to do is, our moral support, optimistic Suggestions and helping hand.

Do u have 5 minutes for India ???
YOU say that our government is inefficient.
YOU say that our laws are too old.
YOU say that the municipality does not pick up the garbage.
YOU say that the phones don't work, the railways are a joke, the airline is the worst in the world, and mails never reach their destination.
YOU say that our country has been fed to the dogs and is the absolute pits.
YOU say, say and say. What do YOU do about it?
Take a person on his way to Singapore.
Give him a name - YOURS.
Give him a face - YOURS.
YOU walk out of the airport and you are at your International best. In Singapore you don't throw cigarette butts on the roads or eat in the stores.
YOU are as proud of their Underground Links as they are. You pay $5 (approx. Rs.60) to drive through Orchard Road (equivalent of Mahim Causeway or Pedder Road) between 5 PM and 8 PM. YOU comeback to the parking lot to punch your parking ticket if you have over stayed in a restaurant or a shopping mall irrespective of your status identity.
In Singapore you don't say anything, DO YOU?
YOU wouldn't dare to eat in public during Ramadan, in Dubai.
YOU would not dare to go out without your head covered in Jeddah.
YOU would not dare to buy an employee of the telephone exchange in London at 10 pounds (Rs.650) a month to, "see to it that my STD and ISD calls are billed to someone else."
YOU would not dare to speed in Washington and then tell the traffic cop, "Jaanta hai sala main kaun hoon (Do you know who I am?). I am so and so's son. Take your two bucks and get lost."
YOU wouldn't chuck an empty coconut shell anywhere other than the garbage pail on the beaches in Australia and New Zealand.
Why don't YOU spit Paan on the streets of Tokyo? Why don't YOU use examination jockeys or buy fake certificates in Boston?
We are still talking of the same YOU.
YOU who can respect and confirm to a foreign system in other countries but cannot in your own. You who will throw papers and cigarettes on the road the moment you touch Indian ground. If you can be an involved and appreciative citizen in an alien country, why cannot you be the same here in India.
Once in an interview, the famous Ex-municipal commissioner of Bombay Mr. Tinaikar had a point to make. "Rich people's dogs are walked on the streets to leave their affluent droppings all over the place," he said". And then the same people turn around to criticize and blame the authorities for inefficiency and dirty pavements. What do they expect the officers to do? Go down with a broom every time their dog feels the pressure in his bowels?
In America every dog owner has to clean up after his pet as done the job Same in Japan. Will the Indian citizen do that here? He's right. We go to the polls to choose a government and after that forfeit all responsibility. We sit back wanting to be pampered and expect the government to do everything for us whilst our contribution is totally negative. We expect the government to clean up but we are not going to stop chucking garbage all over the place nor are we going to stoop to pick up a stray piece of paper and throw it in the bin.
We expect the railways to provide clean bathrooms but we are not going to learn the proper use of bathrooms. We want Indian Airlines and Air India to provide the best of food and toiletries but we are not going to stop pilfering at the least opportunity. This applies even to the staffs who are known not to pass on the service to the public. When it comes to burning social issues like those related to women, dowry, girl child and others, we make loud drawing room protestations and continue to do the reverse at home.
Our excuse is "It's the whole system, which has to change, how will it matter if I alone forego my sons' rights to a dowry." So who's going to change the system? What does a system consist of? Very conveniently for us it consists of our neighbors, Other households, other cities, other communities and the government. But definitely not me and YOU.
When it comes to us actually making a positive contribution to the system, we lock ourselves along with our families into a safe cocoon. And then look into the distance at countries far away and wait for a Mr. Clean to come along & work miracles for us with a majestic sweep of his hand. Or we leave the country and run away. Like lazy cowards hounded by our fears we run to America to bask in their glory and praise their system.
When New York becomes insecure we run to England. When England periences unemployment, we take the next flight out to the Gulf. When the Gulf is war struck, we demand to be rescued and brought home by the Indian government.
Everybody is out to abuse and rape the country. Nobody thinks of feeding the system. Our conscience is mortgaged to money.
Dear Indians,
The article is highly thought inductive, & calls for a great deal of introspection and pricks one's conscience too.... I am echoing JF Kennedy's words to his fellow Americans to relate to Indians.....
"ASK WHAT WE CAN DO FOR INDIA AND DO WHAT HAS TO BE DONE TO MAKE INDIA WHAT AMERICA AND OTHER WESTERN COUNTRIES ARE TODAY"
" Let’s do what India needs from us".

the main reasons for INDIAN incapability
for the process of development is mainly our Democratic leaders who just think about there party and party funds but not for the country
The leader who can,t even walk for himself how can he run the country.
till we cant get a efficient young and dynamic leader india will not develop nor any indians cant be proud of themselves or there country
wish our leaders could read u r article
bye
