| Anantha Sarma gaariki,
Thanks a lot for your comments. I don’t take any comment offensively. In deed, I am willing to learn from everybody’s wisdom for what I know is just a tiny little drop in a gigantic ocean. Only when all the little drops come together does a gigantic ocean form, which in turn makes a huge difference. And that’s precisely what I want to see with this WiSO concept.
We, Indians TOGETHER have to make BIG difference in today’s world. It’s a collective vision that I am interested in and hence, there is no question of feeling offensive.
The primary reason why I accepted the proposal of www.telugupeople.com to launch WiSO concept on the website is that this concept has to be discussed, criticized, brainstormed, fine-tuned and further developed by the wisdom of thousands of fellow Indians around the world.
I got this idea and developed it with whatever little wisdom and intelligence that I have. And I dedicated this concept to our motherland, India. So, it belongs to everyone. It’s not mine, anymore.
Everyone who has the passion to make some positive difference in India, in stead of indulging oneself in the usual rhetoric and lip-service about the problems and prospects of India, can implement this concept freely.
You might ask me, ‘what about you?’ Yes, I’m already implementing it in my personal life. Furthermore, I’m in the process of proposing to the government that I would create one million jobs that are wisdom-based, in next five years provided the Govt. implements certain strategies and if I fail to keep my word, I’m authorizing the government to punish me in whatever way they feel appropriate.
Now, let me answer your questions:
- If you go through the entire article, some of your doubts would be clarified and probably, you would have some more questions to ask.
- The policy-makers in India are projecting India as a hub of BPO, not the people who are doing BPO jobs. That’s what I meant with that sentence. When the leaders (namely policy-makers) themselves do not have great vision, it’s of no use blaming the people, who merely follow them.
- A clerical job is a clerical job, whether it is government or private. But in government jobs, you have the option of using your wisdom and thus making a difference in the lives of citizens.
- No doubt, Manmohan Singh and Abdul Kalam are intelligent. But it is not their intelligence that helped them become so successful. It is their passion to achieve their great vision. Take the passion away from them, today we wouldn’t be talking about Singh and Kalam. When passion is there, even a person who has been labeled as most unintelligent can become highly intelligent. Passion is a fundamental requirement for WiSO concept.
- No where have I mentioned that Americans are doing GREAT things with their wisdom. I only said that they wanted to outsource low-end clerical activities, so they can specialize in high-end activities. By the way, scientifically speaking, we can’t generalize either Americans or anybody as less or more intelligent than others. Everybody on this earth can be intelligent if one wants to be.
- If the government (of any nation) is really committed, it is not at all impossible to provide jobs to every citizen. Any excuse is just escapism. If the government cannot provide employment to graduates, it is a clear failure of leadership for having made them waste 15 years of precious life for education that is not useful to find employment.
- There are millions of jobs and opportunities which are wisdom-based. People, who are really passionate about using their wisdom, can take up those jobs.
- While cost-benefits are one of the reasons, the primary reason behind outsourcing is their management shift towards developing market dominance in their niche market specialty by concentrating purely on their core competencies. This shift requires them to automate all the tasks that can be automated (and hence they require IT professionals) and those tasks that can’t be automated and are too trivial tasks that they would be far better off by outsourcing them to third-party so that they can divert their resources on to their core competencies, they are outsourcing (and hence they require outsourcing destinations).
- I’m not at all of the opinion that we are cheap because we are projecting as cheap labor. That would be like insulting me and my fellow brethren.
- You are right, it is totally at the discretion of the individual and the nation whether to specialize in low-end clerical services or wisdom services.
- If we look at BPO jobs from a 360-degree holistic perspective, majority of these jobs are causing enormous damage to the individual’s and the nation’s long-term sustainable growth. But I do not want to dwell into that as it is a huge topic and requires lots of time. This is not only my contention. Even many top most Indian scientists have unequivocally opined that we are causing self-damage by encouraging young people to go towards BPO jobs.
Thanks to all the other readers for their comments.

Your forward and futuristic thinking is amazing! I heard about you, but this is the first time I am able to see the depth of your knowledge and wisdom.
Sarma garu,
I just read the entire article. I request you too to read it first in total and then you will find answers to your questions. Maharshi garu is asking us to think further - and do bigger and wiser things, if possible. He is not saying that we should stop doing the BPO jobs. BPO jobs are giving us some money and let's spend that money in the right direction to do bigger things.
Note: the 'us' in the 'Let's' can be anybody who has the passion to do it. Maharshi is giving us the directions, whoever wants, they can try these things! As you already said in your comment, 'It is individual's discretion on chosing the career.' Everybody may not have the opportunity to do bigger and wiser things. But, you will see a lot of people in the IT sector, who are born rich and has great knowledge. I really don't understand why they waste their time doing such jobs. In India, we still treat a Job as a social status. In my opinion, if such people can work on innovative projects and tasks, not only India, but the entire world will change in just couple of generations. We can find answers to all natural disasters and natural limitations. I am 100% sure, the world is already going in that direction (may be in a little slower pace).

I didn't go through your entire article but just read the first 2 pages. You feel that we Indians are promoting our selves as cheap labor by accepting the BPO jobs hence wasting our intelligence and wisdom by just doing the clerical jobs which are very mechanical. If so, then what do you feel about the lakhs of govt employees in India doing right now? Aren't they doing the clerical jobs? How do you expect every body in India to be as intelligent as Mr.Abdul Kalam or Manmohan Singh. I just wanted to tell you one more thing that, please don't think that the people in America are doing something GREAT using their wisdom. Their intellignece level is low when compared to ours. I don't find anything wrong in encouring the BPO industry in India. Do you think that government is able to show the jobs to all the gradutes that are coming out of college lakhs in number every year. Even though government provide, can you guarantee that those jobs would let the people use their wisdom to the maximum and do some thing creative. I am sure that it would be definitely more mechanical and boring than the job what they do in the Call centers.
Americans are outsourcing their work to India not to just encourage the people to use their intelligence and wisdom in innovating new things. It is just business. The same job which can be done in the US $50/hr, can be done in India for just $5/hr or even less. Just because we are the cheap labour, it doesn't mean that we are cheap.
I do accept that there are pros and cons in this type of outsourcing jobs but that is not the topic of discussion here. It is individual's discretion on chosing the career. It is not at all harm to encourage the BPO industry in India. No offence meant here, just wanted to share my thoughts with all of you.
thanks.
