| This is a tricky subject.
Firstly, some ground rules can be laid. The understanding has to be scientific and not spiritual. The explanation has to be rational and must be based on materialistic princples.
Telepathy ranges from non-verbal communication between individuals facing each other to 'action at distance'. Making out other people's thoughts is less mysterious than it first appears. The understanding of body language, unspoken words through facial expressions etc can be readily appreciated. In fact some anthropologists feel that the evolution of speech actually inhibited any form of 'telepathic' communication among humans.
In the reported cases of people who seemingly 'share or exchange' thoughts even at distance, researchers generally filter out 99% of the cases which are a result of coincidence. The few rare and inexplicable instances need to be tackled on a materialistic basis.
Some scientists have been attempting to apply quantum mechanical principles to explain these so-called para-normal phenomena but they have not been successful. For one thing, it is said that quantum effects operate at atomic and subatomic level while the agencies and brain cells involved in thought processes are too large in comparison.
As of now, telepathy has no scientific proof whatever the attitude of the common people. It evokes some curiosity among researchers. By and large, there seems to be nothing external to the human brain that can cause 'mysterious' phenomena. Even the so-called out-of-body experiences can be artificially produced by stimulating some brain centres.
