Now does that prove, genocide by europians in 'large' is wrong, because we don't know numbers? Now who are these 80 % writers who says it wrong? How many of them are mainstream historians? What is the new-est and most probable theory right now? Just curious! If you carefully read the population history of indigenous people of americas, the people who proposes 90% depopulation by diseases are not eurocentric, but on the contrary, they oppose it. Since you guys seem to be authoratative on this subject(you can see what is wrong and right), you know better.

I am prepared to discuss anything if the discourse is carried out in a decent manner. I am certainly not interested in this column if the comments begin with chadivEvALLu vedhavalu, iMdirA gAMdhI ammamma and so forth. If this is reduced to the level of a chatroom it is definitely not the place for me. I have explained the purpose of my articles on several occasions. One can certainly have an opposite point of view but I won't stand indecent heckling. People like me write for the love of subject. If any of you have a different point of view or theory pl come forward with it in the form of an article, if necessary, as Dr. Peyyeti did. Bullibasu did not begin his comments the way they appear now, and they refer to vij~nata . Neither he nor I have first hand information on 16th century. We all go by available literature and information. The source has to necessarily be in English. An alternative theory can certainly be proposed if there is some basis.

What are the facts, Mr. non-idiot bullibasu? Fellows like you are driving out writers from this forum.

Bush gives same kind on answers for straight questions asked by the media. He doesn't like to argue about facts. No wonder..every country has idiots.

Mrunaalini garu, Thanks for the feedback. You can perhaps also read Bill Bryson's A Short History of Almost Everything. Most of us don't have the time/energy to read all the books on all subjects. My articles are only a small attempt to get Telugu readers interested in some of these ideas. Some of these articles are being reproduced in printed monthlies. I am not interested in getting into stupid arguments with people whose only contribution to these columns seems to be to heckle. It is a waste of time to keep writing for websites where such guys are given prominence.

Nice article Dr. gaaru, I feel like reading Gun, Germs & Steel or The wealth and poverty of nations, in telugu. I had, yali of new guinea's, questions too and I always wanted to read synopsis of chapters of those book and the history of similar lines and now its a great Joy to read that in telugu. I keep on jumping from book to book and as interested more in lingusitics,I left jared diamond and jumped to Nicholas ostlar ( Empires of the word, a language history of the world). You should read it, if you havent already. I will dig into more if I get sometime :-)
